11 24 571 Replacing all connecting rod bearings (W10)
Necessary Preliminary Tasks:
- Removing oil pan. Refer to 11 13 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING, SEALING OR REPLACING OIL SUMP .
Undo connecting rod bolts (1)
Remove connecting rod bearing cap (2).
Tightening torque, refer to 11 24 1AZ in ENGINE - TIGHTENING TORQUES- COOPER (1.6L) R50/W10 .
Install new connecting rod bearing shells.
Check connecting rod bearing clearance: Piston in BDC position.
Place special tool 00 2 590 (Plastigage model PG 1) on oil-free crankshaft.
Reinstall bearing cap.
Use the old connecting rod bolts to check connecting rod bearing clearance.
Tighten down connecting rod screws with special tool 00 9 120 or special tool 11 2 110.
Tightening torque: 11 24 1AZ in ENGINE - TIGHTENING TORQUES- COOPER (1.6L) R50/W10 .
Remove connecting rod cover.
Read off bearing play at width of flattened plastic thread with assistance of measurement scale (connecting rod bearing clearance).
Remove plastic thread.
Assemble engine.
Lubricate all bearing points with engine oil.
