51 13 403 Replacing handle strip (on trunk lid)

Special Tools Required:

00 9 322

Necessary Preliminary Tasks:

Remove handle strip. Refer to 51 13 402 REMOVING AND INSTALLING HANDLE STRIP (ON TRUNK LID) .

Difference Between Versions Before And After 09/01:

A: Version before 09/01.
1. Wide seal over entire handle strip.
2. Open microswitch.
3. Plug connection.
B: Version after 09/01.
4. Narrow seal only at top over entire handle strip.
5. Plug connection.
6. Small seal around plug connection (5).

Lever light strip (1) on left/right out of recess (2) and remove. Detach bulb (3) on left/right.

Installation:

Perform function check with trunk lid open.

NOTE: Scope of work for "Replacing handle strip (on rear lid after 09/01)" ends here.

Handle Strip After 09/01 On Rear Lid Before 09/01:

Use repair kit.

Fit new (closed) expansion nuts (1).

Clean area of handle strip (grease-free).

Pull off round film (2) from liner (4) and seal left bore hole.

Pull off long film (3) from liner (4), seal right bore hole and both elongated holes.

The liner is the protective film on the bonding area.

Attach seal (1) over plug connection (2) of new handle strip (3).

Seal (4) must not be damaged.

Use only new screws (3.5 x 13 mm).

Installation:

Perform function check with trunk lid open.

NOTE: Scope of work for "Replacing handle strip after 09/01 on rear lid before 09/01" ends here.

Version Before 09/01 Only:

Detach seal (1) from handle strip (2).

NOTE: Do not damage trim (2) when removing catches (1).

Carefully lever panel (2) with special tool 00 9 322 (plastic wedge) out of handle strip (3) and remove.

Installation:

Catches (1) and guides (2) of trim (3) must not be damaged.

Remove adhesive residue (1) from handle strip (2).

Installation:

Perform function check with trunk lid open.
