11 31 032 Removing and installing/replacing the left intake camshaft (S63)

Special tools required: 

• 11 4 480

(cylinder bank 5 to 8) 

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove front axle completely with engine and transmission. See COMPLETELY REMOVING FRONT AXLE WITH ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION (WITH DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION) or COMPLETELY REMOVING FRONT AXLE WITH ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION (WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION) .
• Remove LEFT CYLINDER HEAD COVER .
• Check TIMING .
• Remove LEFT INLET ADJUSTMENT UNIT .
• Remove the TORSION SPRINGS for Valvetronic.

Release screws of camshaft bearings in 1/2 revolutions.

Set down all bearing caps in a tidy and orderly fashion on special tool 11 4 480 .

Remove the intake camshaft "E 58".

Do "not" remove rocker arm (1) on intake side.

Check plastic plain rectangular compression rings (1) for freedom of movement.

Plastic plain rectangular compression ring: 

Installation note: 

The plastic plain rectangular compression rings are maintenance free and do not have to be replaced.

Insert plastic plain rectangular compression ring (1) into groove of intake camshaft (2) (see arrow).

Lightly oil plastic plain rectangular compression ring (1) and rotate in direction of arrow until plastic plain rectangular compression ring (1) is positioned on the intake camshaft.

Insert intake camshaft (1).

Attach all bearing caps from (E1 to E5).

Screw all bearing caps.

Tightening torque. 11 31 6AZ .

Install ALL INTERMEDIATE LEVERS WITH TORSION SPRINGS .

Install INLET ADJUSTMENT UNITS .

Adjust VALVE TIMING .

Assemble engine.
