51 22... Removing and installing/replacing side impact protection in left or right rear door

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Security version: 

Side impact protection cannot be removed

Version with crashpad up to 03/2004: 

Release screw (1) and feed crashpad (2) in direction of arrow out of inner door plate (3).

Installation: 

Plug-in nut (4) on crashpad (2) must not be damaged.

Version with door reinforcement up to 04/2004: 

If necessary, release cable holder on door reinforcement (4).

Release screw (1).

Slacken screw (2) with open-end wrench (3) (do not release fully).

Installation: 

Tightening torque: see 9AZ in 51 22 REAR DOOR LOCKS

Feed out side impact protection (4) downwards and remove.
