61 31 342 Removing and installing/renewing gear selector switch

Special tools required:

61 0 313

IMPORTANT: Read and comply with notes on PROTECTION AGAINST ELECTROSTATIC DAMAGE (ESD PROTECTION) .

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove GEAR SELECTOR SWITCH COVER

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 61 31 1AZ .

Installation note:

Insert gear selector switch (2) correctly in front and rear fixation of center console support (3).

Lift gear selector switch (2), then unlock plug connection (1) at gear selector switch (2) and disconnect.

Replacement

Carry out VEHICLE PROGRAMMING/CODING .

Replacement:

NOTE: A new connector with deviating pin assignment will be installed in the following vehicles.

F12, F13 from 03/2012

On the above-mentioned vehicles which were produced before the relevant data the wiring harness must if necessary be reconnected from the previous 8-pin connector to a new 10-pin connector (BMW Parts Department 9 132 577) with special tool 61 0 313 .

Pin assignment:

Eight-pin connector: current pin	Ten-pin connector: new pin
