72 11 001 Removing and installing/replacing front seat belt completely, driver's seat

IMPORTANT: Read and comply with SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS  for handling airbag modules and pyrotechnical belt tensioners.
Inexpert handling can trigger off the airbag or the belt pretensioner and thereby cause injuries.
If a seat belt which is damaged due to an accident is exchanged, always check the affected seat for damage.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Installation note: 

Unclip the rear cover on the seat in direction of arrow and remove.

Installation note: 

Preassemble metal clamps (1) in cover.

Release screws (1).

Remove lid from seat mechanism in direction of arrow.

Release screws (1).

Remove upper section of belt deflector support from rear seat backrest, top.

Release screw (1).

Installation note: 

Replace microencapsulated screw.

Tightening torque 72 11 02AZ .

End fitting is coded against incorrect assembly.

Unlock connector (1) and pull out of connector housing.

REMA Seat belt/S5ALA Active Protection: 

Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.

Release clamp (2).

Release screws (3).

Tightening torque 72 11 01AZ .

Feed out inertia reel (4) upwards to the front from the seat mechanism.

REMA Seat belt/S5ALA Active Protection: 

Installation note: 

Attach inertia reel (1) properly in guide (2).

Basic version of seat belt: 

Pull the metal clamp (1) off the seat mechanism.

Release screw (2).

Remove inertia reel unit.

Tightening torque 72 11 01AZ .

Installation note: 

Inertia reel is coded to prevent incorrect installation.

Make sure metal clamp is securely seated.

Installation note: 

Seat belt strap must not be twisted when in the installed condition.

CHECK SEAT BELT FOR CORRECT FUNCTION .

During replacement with version REMA seat belt/S5ALA Active Protection: 

Carry out VEHICLE PROGRAMMING/ENCODING .
