84 10 810 Removing and installing (replacing) Telematic Communication Box

IMPORTANT: Observe the INFORMATION ON PROTECTION FROM ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE .

NOTE: Comply with notes and instructions on HANDLING OPTICAL FIBRE .

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Disconnect BATTERY EARTH LEAD
REMOVE BACKREST
Remove front air outlet ornamental grille (only on vehicles which still do not have splash protection film on the Combox). See 51 46 026 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING FRONT AIR OUTLET TRIM GRILLE .

If necessary, unlock and disconnect the aerial connector (1).

Unlock and disconnect connector (2).

Unscrew nuts (3).

Remove TCB (4).

Installation note:

Observe color coding of the connectors (1).

Replacement:

Carry out VEHICLE PROGRAMMING/ENCODING

NOTE: When replacing the TCB, check whether the faulty TCB is equipped with an EMERGENCY BATTERY :

If no , then the new part is installed without an emergency battery!
If yes , then the new part should be equipped with a new emergency battery (ordered separately, TCB is supplied without an emergency battery!)

NOTE: On vehicles with a production date from 09/2011 onwards, the TCB (3) is installed with splash protection film (2).

When removing and installing/replacing the TCB (3), fit the splash protection film (2) on all vehicles!

Remove protective film (1) from splash protection film (2).
Fold up splash protection film (2) as pictured.

Remove remaining protective film from splash protection film (2). Stick splash protection film (2) as pictured on holder of TCB (3).
Fit TCB with holder (3) in the vehicle, replace the aerial line replacing (see next operation) and close the plug connections.
Stick splash protection film (2) as pictured on TCB (3).

Lay aerial line (1) as pictured, secure and form a loop at point (2).
