54 12 211 Removing and installing complete glass slide/tilt sunroof (frame)

Necessary preliminary tasks

E65, E66, E71 only:

Remove ROOF COVER .
Move front seat back/down as far as possible.

E60, E71 only:

Remove both HEAD AIRBAGS at top.

E66 with rear air conditioning only:

Removing both air ducts

E60 only:

Removing holder for handle at front and rear:

Release screws.
Take off holder.

IMPORTANT: Remove glass slide/tilt sunroof with aid of a second person.
Do not damage any surrounding parts when removing glass slide/tilt sunroof (6).

Detach water drain hoses (4)
Unlock and disconnect plug (2).
Disconnect cable (5) from glass slide/tilt sunroof (6)
Installation note:

Do not crush any cables when installing the glass slide/tilt sunroof.
Release screws (1) - tightening torque 54 12 6AZ
Release screws (3) on left/right - tightening torque 54 12 6AZ
Carefully lower glass slide/tilt sunroof (6) and guide out completely through rear door

Installation note:

Secure all screws (1) with shims (2).

If the standard screws no longer grip, use "repair screws" with a larger thread diameter.

NOTE: Due to robot assembly, all screws (1) are secured with washers (2) in production. These washers (2) are not absolutely necessary during manual assembly. They are however useful for positioning the frame on the body with 4 screws.

E71 and E72 only:

When removing or replacing the glass slide/tilt sunroof, check to make sure that the version of the water gutter (2) is current.

Current version [Version without adapter (1)]
Current version [An adapter (1) already exists between water gutter (2) and water gutter intake (3)]

When the current version is (A) it must be converted to current version (B). Install part number 54 10 7 273 541 (modified water gutter including adapter).
