51 31 200 Removing and installing/replacing rear window: Notes

The following notes form the basis for these repair instructions and must be adhered to at all times:
- Follow general instructions on window bonding. See SAFETY AT WORK , INFORMATION ON VEHICLE PROTECTION , MATERIALS FOR BONDING WINDOW , and TOUCHING UP PAINTWORK DAMAGE .
- See GENERAL PROCEDURE for dismantling/installing bonded window glass
Cover rear side panels with protective covers.
When reusing the rear window:
Do not damage lines for heated rear window/-aerial.
NOTE:
Removal is performed with ROLL OUT 2000 .
Only use an oscillating blade when replacing the windscreen.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove TRIM PANELS FOR ROOF PILLAR AT REAR left/right
- Remove ADDITIONAL BRAKE LIGHT
- Partially lower HEADLINING AT REAR
- Remove ROOF FRAME TRIM STRIP on left and right
Disconnect plug connections (1) on left and right.
Tape off edges of tailgate and body all round with fabric adhesive tape (e.g. Tesa).
- Rear window
- Adhesive bead
- Body opening
- Fabric adhesive tape
IMPORTANT:
Tape off body in area of piercing point with fabric adhesive tape (risk of damage).
Push wire starter from ROLL OUT 2000 at line (1) through adhesive bead.
