64 11 220 Removing and installing/replacing resistor for heater blower

Remove sound insulation from firewall (top). Refer to 51 13 ... REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING SOUNDPROOFING IN FIREWALL (TOP) .

NOTE: Before carrying out repairs:
Leave vehicle to stand for at least 2 hours at a temperature of 15° to 30°C.
WARNING: When carrying out work with cleaning agents in enclosed rooms: ensure room is well ventilated.
CAUTION: Detach microfilter housing carefully and uniformly.

Installation: 

The adhesive areas must be dry and free from dust and grease.

Remove butyl material by tugging or by dabbing with cold butyl material.

If necessary, clean specified sealing area with cleaning agent (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service).

Air drying time: 1 minute.

After cleaning, do not touch sealing area any more with bare hands.

Unscrew nuts (1).

Detach microfilter housing (2) (if necessary cut through butyl material carefully) and remove.

Installation: 

Cut butyl tape dia. 6 mm (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service) to length, place on microfilter housing and press down gently.

Heat butyl tape to approx. 80°C with and industrial hot air dryer.

Mount microfilter housing immediately after applying sealant.

Unclip tensioning straps (1).

Remove cover (2).

Installation: 

Ensure plug connections are correctly seated.

Ensure cover (2) is correctly seated.

Pull out resistor for heater blower (1) in direction of arrow and remove.

Installation: 

Ensure resistor for heater blower (1) is correctly seated.
