51 24 325 Removing and installing/replacing left tension spring for rear lid

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

WARNING: Support tailgate in fully opened position with suitable apparatus. Danger of injury!

Press retainer (1) together.

Ball socket (2) jumps out of ball stud.

WARNING: The tailgate will drop down if it is not supported.

Unhook tension spring with damper (1) from tailgate hinge (2).

Installation note: 

If the removed tension spring (1) is going to be installed again, the tension spring (1) may need to be bent into its original condition by hand.
