51 13 282 Replacing trim strip on roof frame at left or right

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Unlock plastic mount (1) and simultaneously slide to one side.

Slide plastic mount (1) sideways out of trim strip.

Remove cover (2).

Installation note: 

Make sure cover is correctly seated in plastic mount.

Make sure plastic mounts are correctly engaged.

All retainers must be removed in order for seal (5) to be removed.

Glue molded part of seal (5) to trim strip (6) with Loctite 454 (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service).

Coat rest of sealing channel of seal (7) with antiseize agent, see 3. AUXILIARY MATERIALS AND TOOLS .

Fit seal (7) and press into end position with special tool 00 9 321 (fishbone).

Fit seal (8) without antiseize agent in compressed state.

Installation note: 

New seals (7 and 8) are longer than trim strip (6).

After installation, compress seals (7 and 8) slightly.

Cut seals (7 and 8) to length at ends to trim strip (6).
