12 42 500 Removing and installing or replacing battery positive lead (between starter motor, alternator and battery positive support point) (M62): Notes

Interrogate fault memory of DME control unit.

Switch off ignition.

Observe safety instructions for handling vehicle battery.

Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery, refer to General Information MG 12.

Disconnect negative battery lead.

Remove reinforcement plate. Refer to FRONT AXLE SUPPORT .

Release screws.

Remove underbody paneling (1).

Remove protective cap (1) of battery positive lead from starter motor.

Release nut (2).

Tightening torque, see 12 41 4AZ in ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Disconnect battery positive lead from starter motor.

Unclip battery positive lead from holders.

Unclip battery positive lead from holders (1) on upper oil sump section.

Release nut (1).

Disconnect battery positive lead (2) from alternator.

Tightening torque, see 12 31 1AZ in ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Turn fasteners on acoustic cover 90° counterclockwise.

Remove acoustic cover.

Release cable ties (1).

Remove sealing caps on cover of ignition coils on left.

Release nuts.

Remove cover on ignition coils on left.
