12 31 020 Removing and installing/replacing alternator (M62): Notes

Switch off ignition.
Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery, refer to General Information MG 12.
Disconnect and cover battery negative lead.
WARNING:
Danger of scalding!
Only perform these tasks on an engine that has cooled down.
Remove alternator drive belt, refer to 11 28 010 .
Remove fan cowl, refer to 17 11 031 .
Drain coolant, refer to 17 00 005 .
Release bolts (1) on alternator.
Release nut (1).
Disconnect battery positive lead (2) from alternator.
Tightening torque, see 12 31 1AZ in ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
Disconnect plug (3).
Release screw (4) and remove roller.
Release screws (5) on alternator.
