51 12 157 Replacing rear bumper trim (M6)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove cover cap (1) for tow lug. Remove wiring harness (2) for ultrasonic transducers.

Lay bumper trim (1) down on a cushioned, level surface. Attach license plate carrier (2) to bumper trim (1).

IMPORTANT: Make sure license plate carrier (2) is correctly seated on bumper trim (1). Guide (3) must be correctly seated in bumper trim (1).

NOTE: The license plate carrier is secured with a commercially available hot-cutting tool (1) with replaceable blade (2).

WARNING: Observe the following when handling the hot-cutting tool (1):
  • Danger of burning.
  • Do not inhale the fumes that are generated, draw fumes off by extraction if necessary.
  • Make sure the room is well ventilated.
  • For further safety information, refer to operating instructions.
NOTE: Before welding each individual lug (2), check seating of license plate carrier (4) on bumper trim (1) and if necessary realign.

Press license plate carrier (4) firmly onto bumper trim (1) and weld lugs (2) with hot-cutting tool (3).

NOTE: Ensure correct welding in order to guarantee secure seating of the license plate carrier.
