Pinpoint Test F: The Driver Door Module (DDM) Will Not Enter Training Mode

Normal Operation 

For the driver door module (DDM) to enter tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) sensor training mode, it must receive valid inputs from the following:

Refer to Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor Training  for the complete sensor training procedure.

The brake pedal position (BPP) switch input is supplied to central junction box (CJB) fuse 28 (7.5A) along circuit 511 (LG) and then to the lighting control module (LCM) along circuit 1651 (WH/RD). The LCM then provides the BPP information to the DDM along the standard corporate protocol (SCP) communication bus.

The ignition switch input is supplied to the LCM from CJB fuse 8 (10A) along circuit 640 (RD/YE) and CJB fuse 5 (7.5A) along circuit 297 (BK/LG). The LCM then provides the ignition switch information to the DDM along the SCP communication bus. The vehicle speed input is supplied by the PCM to the instrument cluster along the high-speed controller area network (HS-CAN) bus, then from the instrument cluster to the DDM along the SCP communication bus.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

PINPOINT TEST F: THE DRIVER DOOR MODULE (DDM) WILL NOT ENTER TRAINING MODE 

NOTE: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multi-meter probes.
  1. F1 CHECK FOR MODULE DTCs 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Retrieve and record any LCM, PCM, DDM, HS-CAN bus or SCP bus DTCs.
    • Are there any DTCs present? 
    1. YES  : For LCM DTCs, REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.

      For PCM DTCs, REFER to the Introduction - Gasoline Engines article.

      For DDM DTCs, REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.

      For HS-CAN bus and SCP bus DTCs, REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.

    2. NO  : Go to  F2.
  2. F2 CHECK THE VSS 
    • Drive the vehicle and observe the speedometer.
    • Is the speedometer working and displaying the correct speed? 
    1. YES  : Go to  F3.
    2. NO  : REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC), MESSAGE CENTER, & WARNING CHIMES article to diagnose the instrument cluster.
  3. F3 CHECK THE LCM BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH (LCM_BOO) PID 
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: DataLogger LCM
    • Observe the LCM_BOO PID while pressing and releasing the brake pedal.
    • Does the PID match the BPP? 
    1. YES  : Go to  F4.
    2. NO  : REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING article to diagnose the BPP switch.
  4. F4 CHECK THE LCM IGNITION SWITCH (IGN_SW) PID 
    • Observe the IGN_SW PID while turning the ignition switch from RUN to OFF and back to RUN again.
    • Does the PID match the ignition switch position? 
    1. YES  : Go to  F5.
    2. NO  : REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article to diagnose the LCM.
  5. F5 CHECK THE DDM CONNECTORS 
    • Disconnect all the DDM connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion.
      • pushed-out pins.
      • spread terminals.
    • Connect all the DDM connectors and make sure that they are seated correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new DDM. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
