Test N: Anti-Lock Brake System Warning Indicator Never On

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) control module 31-pin harness connector C249. ABS control module is located below brake master cylinder. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a fused 10-amp jumper wire between ground and ABS control module harness connector C249 terminal No. 21 (White/Black wire). If ABS warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If ABS warning indicator illuminates, repair ABS concern. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C266a. Measure resistance of White/Black wire between instrument cluster harness connector C266a terminal No. 5 and ABS control module harness connector C249 terminal No. 21. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, inspect ABS diode for possible fault. ABS diode is located behind upper top of instrument panel. If ABS diode is okay, repair open in White/Black wire.
  3. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C266a terminal No. 5 (White/Black wire). See Figure. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or more, repair short to voltage in White/Black wire.
  4. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corroded or pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace instrument cluster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
