Test E: Speedometer/Odometer Inoperative
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 22-pin harness connector C266b. Connect a voltmeter between instrument cluster harness connector C266b terminals No. 11 (Black/Red wire) and No. 22 (Pink/Blue wire). See Figure. Raise and support vehicle. Start engine and operate vehicle at indicated speeds. See SPEED-TO-VOLTAGE COMPARISON table. If voltages are not as specified, go to next step. If voltages are as specified, go to step 3.SPEED-TO-VOLTAGE COMPARISON

Disconnect Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) harness connector. Measure resistance of Pink/Blue wire between instrument cluster harness connector C266b terminal No. 22 and VSS harness connector. Measure resistance of Black/Red wire between instrument cluster harness connector C266b terminal No. 11 and VSS harness connector. If both resistances are less than 5 ohms, replace VSS. If either resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Pink/Blue wire and/or Black/Red wire.
- Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corroded or pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace instrument cluster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
