Test W: Safety Belt Warning Never/Always On

  1. Check safety belt warning chime. Buckle the left hand and right hand shoulder belts. Unbuckle driver side lap belt. Turn key ON. Turn key OFF. Buckle the driver side lap belt. Turn key ON. Does safety belt warning chime sound when lap belt is unbuckled and no warning chime sound when lap belt is buckled? If yes, go to next step. If no, diagnose problem in safety belt circuit.
  2. Check safety belt warning indicator miniature bulb. Turn key OFF. Remove the instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove the safety belt warning indicator miniature bulb. Measure the continuity between the terminals of the safety belt warning indicator miniature bulb. Does continuity exist? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the safety belt warning indicator miniature bulb.
  3. Check wire between instrument cluster and timer module. Turn key OFF. Locate and disconnect the instrument cluster connector C266 and the timer module connector. Measure the resistance of the Orange wire between the instrument cluster connector C266 and the timer module connector. Measure the resistance of the Orange wire between the instrument cluster connector C266 and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the instrument cluster and the timer module, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the timer module and ground? If yes, replace the instrument cluster printed circuit. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If no, repair Orange wire.
