Preliminary Inspection
- Verify the customer concern by operating the system in question.
- Visually inspect the mechanical components of the instrument cluster. Inspect for the following:
- Low brake fluid level
- Damaged engine oil filter
- Damaged oil pump
- Damaged vehicle speed sensor gear
- Damaged washer fluid reservoir
- Door adjustment
- Low engine oil level
- Low washer fluid level
- Stuck instrument cluster temperature gauge needle
- Stuck tachometer needle
- Worn or damaged generator drive belt
- Stuck speedometer needle
- Visually inspect the electrical components of the instrument cluster. Inspect for the following:
- Blown Fuses:
- 10A METER
- 15A ROOM LAMP
- 10A RLY COIL
- Damaged miniature bulbs
- Damaged wiring harness
- Loose or corroded connections
- Damaged vehicle speed sensor
- Damaged instrument cluster
- Damaged lamp switches
- Verify that the following systems are working properly:
- Charging system
- Safety belt warning chime
- Turn signals
- Headlamps
- Speed control
If the system(s) are not working properly, refer to the appropriate article to diagnose the system.
- Check the wiring harness for obvious signs of shorts, opens, bad connections, or damage.
- If the fault is not visually evident, determine the symptom and proceed to the following.
