Coolant Temperature Gauge
The coolant temperature gauge is identified by the word TEMP and by a thermometer symbol. H (Hot) indicates high temperature, C (Cold) indicates low temperature, and NORMAL indicates the temperature range within which the engine should be operating. See .
The coolant temperature gauge consists of three primary coils, one of which is wound at a 90 degree angle to the other two. The coils form a magnetic field which varies in direction according to the variable resistance of the sensor unit which is connected between the two of them. A primary magnet, to which a shaft and the pointer are attached, rotates to align to this primary field, resulting in pointer movement and position. The bobbin/coil assembly is pressed into a metal housing which has two holes for dial mounting. This gauge requires no adjustment, calibration, or maintenance.
