Instrument Cluster
The instrument cluster contains an analog speedometer and tachometer. See Fig 1 . The right hand side of the instrument cluster contains the fuel gauge/temperature gauge assembly. Directly beneath these gauges are the odometer, the trip odometer, and the trip odometer reset button. The warning/indicator lamps and the transmission control selector indicator are located along the bottom of the instrument cluster. The right hand and left hand turn signal indicators flank the speedometer at the top of the instrument cluster.
The instrument cluster illumination and the instrument panel illumination are controlled by the light switch rheostat resistor, located on the left hand side of the instrument panel finish panel and by the timer module. The timer module is mounted beneath the inertia fuel shutoff switch (IFS switch). When either side of the light switch rheostat resistor is pressed, an electronic signal is sent to the timer module which then outputs voltage to the instrument cluster and panel illumination lamps. The voltage range is from 9.0 volts (brightest) to 0.2 volts (dimmest). However, the light switch rheostat resistor does not control the glove compartment or the ash receptacle illumination lamps.
The instrument cluster and the instrument panel will not illuminate when the headlamp switch is in the OFF position.
