Test K: Warning Lamp System Inoperative

NOTE: Do NOT start this test unless directed by a symptom diagnosis in WARNING LAMP SYSTEM  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  1. Check the 10A Meter fuse located in the interior fuse panel. Is the fuse okay? If yes, go to step  4 . If no, go to next step.
  2. Turn key to OFF position. Replace the 10A Meter fuse. Turn key to ON position. Does the fuse fail again? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  4 .
  3. Turn key to OFF position. Remove the 10A Meter fuse. Remove the instrument cluster. . See ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect all of the instrument cluster connectors. Disconnect the oil level timer module connector located behind the glove compartment. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Measure the resistance of the Gray/Blue wire between the right terminal of the 10A Meter fuse and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, service the Gray/Blue wire between the interior fuse panel and the instrument cluster. If no, replace the 10A Meter fuse and then go to next step.
  4. Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the 20-pin instrument cluster connector. Turn key to ON position. Measure the voltage on terminal "T" (Gray/Blue wire) at the 20-pin instrument cluster connector. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the Gray/Blue wire between the instrument cluster and the interior fuse panel.
  5. Turn key to OFF position. Reconnect the oil level timer module connector. Disconnect the oil level switch connector located on the oil pan. Turn key to ON position. Ground the Black/Red wire at the oil level switch connector. Does the low oil level warning lamp illuminate when the Black/Red wire is grounded? If yes, replace the oil level switch. If no, go to next step.
  6. Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the 20-pin instrument cluster connector. Disconnect the oil level timer module connector located behind the glove compartment. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Measure the resistance of the Black/Yellow wire between terminal "F" of the 20-pin instrument cluster connector and the oil level timer module connector. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . Measure the resistance of the Black/Yellow wire between terminal "F" of the 20-pin instrument cluster connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the instrument cluster connector and the oil level timer module connector, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the instrument cluster connector and ground? If yes, go to next step. If no, service Black/Yellow wire.
  7. Turn key to OFF position. Reconnect the instrument cluster connectors. Disconnect the oil level timer module connector. Ground the Black/Yellow wire at the oil level timer module. Turn key to ON position. Does the low oil level warning lamp illuminate? If yes, go to step  9 . If no, go to next step.
  8. Turn key to OFF position. Remove the low oil level warning lamp bulb. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the low oil level warning lamp bulb. Is the resistance approximately 17 ohms? If yes, replace the electronic instrument cluster. See ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If no, replace the low oil level warning lamp bulb.
  9. Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the oil level timer module connector. The 20-pin instrument cluster connector. Disconnect the oil level timer module connector located behind the glove compartment. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  .Turn key to ON position. Measure the voltage on the Gray/Blue wire at the oil level timer module connector. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the Gray/Blue wire between the instrument cluster and the oil level timer module.
  10. Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the oil level timer module connector. Measure the resistance of the Black wire between the oil level timer module connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, service Black wire.
  11. Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Disconnect the oil level timer module connector. Turn key to the START position. Measure the resistance of the Light Green/Black wire between the oil level timer module connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms while key is in the START position? If yes, go to next step. If no, service ignition switch. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES .
  12. Turn key to OFF position. Reconnect the battery. Disconnect the oil level timer module connector. Disconnect the oil level switch connector located on the oil pan. Measure the resistance of the Black/Red wire between the oil level timer module connector and the oil level switch connector. Measure the resistance of the Black/Red wire between the oil level timer module connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the oil level timer module connector and the oil level switch connector, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the oil level timer module connector and ground? If yes, replace the oil level timer module. If no, service the Black/Red wire.
  13. Turn key to OFF position. Remove the door ajar warning lamp bulb. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the door ajar warning lamp bulb. Is the resistance approximately 16 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the door ajar warning lamp bulb.
  14. Turn key to OFF position. Install the door ajar warning lamp bulb. Reconnect the 20-pin instrument cluster connector. Remove the instrument cluster. See ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect the center Black diode strip from the diode junction box located behind the left side of the instrument cluster. Ground terminal No. 19 of the diode junction box connector. See Figure . Turn key to ON position. Does the door ajar warning lamp illuminate when terminal No. 19 is grounded? If yes, go to step  16 . If no, go to next step.
  15. Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the 20-pin instrument cluster connector. Disconnect the center Black diode strip at the diode junction box connector. Measure the resistance of the Blue wire between terminal "S" of the 20-pin instrument cluster connector and terminal No. 19 of the diode junction box connector. See Figure . See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . Measure the resistance of the Blue wire between terminal "S" of the 20-pin instrument cluster connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the instrument cluster connector and the diode junction box connector, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the instrument cluster connector and ground? If yes, replace the electronic instrument cluster. If no, service the Blue wire.
  16. Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the center Black diode strip from the diode junction box connector. Close all of the doors. Use analog Rotunda Inductive Dwell-Tach-Volts Ohms Tester (059-00010) or equivalent, measure the resistance of the Red/White wire between terminal No. 18 of the diode junction box connector and ground at the following conditions. See TESTING DOOR JAMB SWITCH CIRCUITS  . See Figure .

    Door Resistance (Ohms)
    All Doors Closed Greater Than 10,000
    Left Door Open Less Than 5
    Right Door Open Less Than 5
    Sliding Door Open Less Than 5

    Are the resistances okay? If yes, go to step  25 . If resistance is not okay on all doors, go to next step. If resistance is not okay on left door, go to step  18 . If resistance is not okay on right door, go to step  20 . If resistance is not okay on sliding door, go to step  22 .

  17. Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the left door jamb switch, right door jamb switch, and sliding door jamb switch connectors located on the base of the B-pillars. Disconnect the center Black diode strip from the diode junction box connector. Disconnect the keyless entry module connector (if equipped) located in the center console below the radio. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Measure the resistance of the Red/White wire between terminal No. 18 of the diode junction box connector and ground. See Figure . Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the Red/White wire and/or Black/White wire on vehicles equipped with keyless entry.
  18. Turn key to OFF position. Remove the left door jamb switch. Measure the resistance between the Red/White wire terminal on the left door jamb switch and the mounting screw on the left door jamb switch. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the door jamb switch button released, and greater than 10,000 ohms with the door jamb switch button depressed? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the left door jamb switch.
  19. Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the center Black diode strip from the diode junction box connector. Disconnect the left door jamb switch connector. Measure the resistance of the Red/White wire between terminal No. 18 of the diode junction box connector and the left door jamb switch connector.See Figure . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, service Red/White wire.
  20. Turn key to OFF position. Reconnect the left door jamb switch connector. Remove the right door jamb switch. Measure the resistance between the Red/White wire terminal on the right door jamb switch and the mounting screw on the right door jamb switch. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the door jamb switch button released, and greater than 10,000 ohms with the door jamb switch button depressed? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the right door jamb switch.
  21. Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the center Black diode strip from the diode junction box connector. Disconnect the right door jamb switch connector. Measure the resistance of the Red/White wire between terminal No. 18 of the diode junction box connector and the right door jamb switch connector. See Figure . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, service Red/White wire.
  22. Turn key to OFF position. Reconnect the right door jamb switch connector. Disconnect the center Black diode strip from the diode junction box connector. Disconnect the sliding door jamb switch connector. Use analog Rotunda Inductive Dwell-Tach-Volts Ohms Tester (059-00010) or equivalent to measure the resistance between the Red/White wires at terminal No. 18 of the diode junction box connector and the Red/White wire (or Black/White wire for vehicles with keyless entry) at the sliding door jamb switch connector. See Figure . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, replace the sliding door jamb switch. See DOOR JAMB SWITCHES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms and the vehicle does not have keyless entry, service the Red/White wire. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms and the vehicle has keyless entry, go to next step.
  23. Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the center Black diode strip from the diode junction box connector. Disconnect the keyless entry diode connector located near the bottom of the right B-pillar. Measure the resistance of the Red/White wire between terminal No. 18 of the diode junction box connector and the keyless entry diode connector. See Figure and Figure . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, service Red/White wire.
  24. Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the keyless entry diode connector. Disconnect the sliding door jamb switch connector. Measure the resistance of the Black/White wire between the keyless entry diode connector and the sliding door jamb switch connector. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, replace the keyless entry diode. See KEYLESS ENTRY DIODE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If no, service Black/White wire.
  25. Turn key to OFF position. Reconnect the sliding door jamb switch connector. Disconnect the center Black diode strip from the diode junction box connector. Measure the resistance of the Brown/White wire between terminal No. 21 of the diode junction box connector and ground. See Figure . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the liftgate open and greater than 10,000 ohms with the liftgate closed? If yes, replace the center Black diode strip. See DIODE STRIPS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If no, go to next step.
  26. Turn key to OFF position. Remove the liftgate relay located beneath the left rear cup holder. See Figure . Measure the resistance of the Purple wire between the liftgate relay connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the liftgate open and greater than 10,000 ohms with the liftgate closed? If yes, go to step  29 . If no, go to next step.
  27. Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the liftgate latch switch connector located on the liftgate latch. Measure the resistance between the terminals on the liftgate latch switch. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the latch open, and greater than 10,000 ohms with the latch closed? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace liftgate latch switch.
  28. Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the liftgate latch switch connector. Measure the resistance of the Black wire between the liftgate latch switch connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, service the Purple wire between the liftgate relay and the liftgate latch switch. If no, service Black wire.
  29. Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the center Black diode strip from the diode junction box connector. Remove the liftgate relay. Measure the resistance of the Brown/White wire between terminal No. 21 of the diode junction box connector and the liftgate relay connector. See Figure . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, service Brown/White wire.
  30. Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the center Black diode strip from the diode junction box connector. Remove the liftgate relay. Measure the resistance of the Brown/White wire between terminal No. 21 of the diode junction box connector and ground. See Figure . Is the resistance less than 1 ohm? If yes, service the Brown/White wire between the diode junction box and the liftgate relay. If no, go to next step.
  31. Turn key to OFF position. Remove the liftgate relay. Measure the voltage on the Brown wire at the liftgate relay connector. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? If yes, go to step  33 . If no, go to next step.
  32. Turn key to OFF position. Check the 15A Room Lamp fuse located in the interior fuse panel. Is the fuse okay? If yes, service the Brown wire between the interior fuse panel and the liftgate relay. If no, replace the 15A Room Lamp fuse. If fuse fails again, service the short in the Brown wire.
  33. Turn key to OFF position. Remove the liftgate relay. See Figure . Measure the resistance of the Black wire between the liftgate relay connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, replace liftgate relay. If no, service the Black wire.
  34. Turn key to OFF position. Remove the low washer fluid warning lamp bulb. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the low washer fluid warning lamp bulb. Is the resistance approximately 16 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the low washer fluid warning lamp bulb.
  35. Turn key to OFF position. Install the low washer fluid warning lamp bulb. Reconnect the 20-pin instrument cluster connector. Disconnect the low washer fluid switch connectoron the washer reservoir. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Ground the Green/Black wire at the low washer fluid switch connector. Turn key to ON position. Does the low washer fluid warning lamp illuminate? If yes, go to step  37 . If no, go to next step.
  36. Turn key to OFF position. Remove the instrument cluster. Disconnect the 20-pin instrument cluster connector. Disconnect the low washer fluid switch connector located on the washer fluid reservoir. Measure the resistance of the Green/Black wire between terminal No. 1 of the 20-pin instrument cluster connector and the low washer fluid switch connector. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . Measure the resistance of the Green/Black wire between terminal 1 of the 20-pin instrument cluster connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the instrument cluster connector and the low washer fluid switch connector, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the instrument cluster connector and ground? If yes, replace the electronic instrument cluster. If no, service the Green/Black wire.
  37. Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the low washer fluid switch connector on the washer reservoir. Measure the resistance of the Black wire between the low washer fluid switch connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, replace the low washer fluid switch. If no, service the Black wire.
