Test J: Warning Chime System Inoperative
NOTE:
Do NOT start this test unless directed by a symptom diagnosis in WARNING CHIME SYSTEM
under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Check the 15A Room Lamp fuse located in the interior fuse panel. Is the fuse OK? If yes, go to step 4 . If no, go to next step.
- Turn key to OFF position. Replace the 15A Room Lamp fuse. Does the fuse fail again? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 4 .
- Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the warning chime connector located behind the instrument cluster. See Figure . Remove the 15A ROOM LAMP fuse. Measure the resistance of the Brown wire between the right terminal of the 15A ROOM LAMP fuse and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, service the Brown wire between the interior fuse panel and the warning chime. If no, replace the 15A Room Lamp fuse and then go to next step.
- Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the warning chime connector located behind the instrument cluster. See Figure . Measure the voltage on the Brown wire at the warning chime connector. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the Brown wire between the interior fuse panel and the warning chime.
- Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the warning chime connector. Apply 12 volts to the Brown wire terminal and ground to the Purple/White wire terminal on the warning chime. Does the warning chime sound? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace warning chime.
- Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the timer module connector. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Disconnect the warning chime connector. Measure the resistance of the Purple/White wire between terminal "F" of the timer module connector and the warning chime connector. Measure the resistance of the Purple/White wire between the warning chime connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the timer module connector and the warning chime connector, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the warning chime connector and ground? If yes, go to next step. If no, service Purple/White wire.
- Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the timer module connector. Turn the headlamps on. Measure the voltage on the Pink wire at the timer module connector. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the Pink wire between the headlamp switch and the timer module.
- Check the 10A Electron Bat fuse located in the interior fuse panel. Is the fuse okay? If yes, go to step 11 . If no, go to next step.
- Turn key to OFF position. Replace the 10A Electron Bat fuse. Does the fuse fail again? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 11 .
- Turn key to OFF position. Remove the 10A Electron Bat fuse. Disconnect the timer module connector. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Measure the resistance of the Purple wire between the right terminal of the 10A Electron Bat fuse and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, service the Purple wire between the interior fuse panel and the instrument cluster. If no, replace the 10A Electron Bat and then go to next step.
- Turn key OFF position. Disconnect the timer module connector. Measure the voltage on the Purple wire at the timer module connector. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the Purple wire between the interior fuse panel and the instrument cluster.
- Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the timer module connector. Open left (driver) door. Measure the resistance of the Red/Green wire between the timer module connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the left door open and greater than 10,000 ohms with the left door closed? If yes, go to step 17 . If no, go to next step.
- Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the left door jamb switch connector located in the B-pillar of the driver's door jamb. Depress the door jamb switch. Measure the resistance between the Red/Green wire terminal and the Black wire terminal on the left door jamb switch. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the left door jamb switch released, and greater than 10,000 ohms with the left door jamb switch depressed? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the left door jamb switch.
- Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the left door jamb switch connector. Measure the resistance of the Black wire between the left door jamb switch connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, service the Red/Green wire between the timer module and the left door jamb switch. If no, go to next step.
- Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the left door jamb switch connector. Remove the instrument cluster. Disconnect the center Black diode strip from the diode junction box connector located behind the instrument cluster. Measure the resistance of the Black wire between the left door jamb switch connector and terminal No. 12 of the diode junction box connector. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, service Black wire.
- Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the center Black diode strip at the diode junction box connector. Measure the resistance of the Black/Red wire between terminal No. 15 of the diode junction box connector and ground. See Figure . The Black/Red wire splices into the Black wire. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, replace the center Black diode strip. See DIODE STRIPS under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If no, service Black/Red-Black wire.
- Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the timer module connector. Place key in the ignition. Measure the resistance of the Blue/Orange wire between terminal "A" of the timer module connector and ground. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with key in the ignition and greater than 10,000 ohms with key removed? If yes, replace timer module. See TIMER MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If no, service ignition key reminder switch.
- Check the 10A Rly Coil fuse located in the interior fuse panel. Is the fuse okay? If yes, go to step 21 . If no, go to next step.
- Turn key to OFF position. Replace the 10A Rly Coil fuse. Does the fuse fail again? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 21 .
- Turn key to OFF position. Remove the 10A Rly Coil fuse. Disconnect the timer module connector located behind the left kick panel. Measure the resistance of the Blue wire between the right terminal of the 10A Rly Coil fuse and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, service the Blue wire between the interior fuse panel and the instrument cluster. If no, replace the 10A Rly Coil fuse and then go to next step.
- Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the timer module connector located behind the left kick panel. Turn the key to ON position. Measure the voltage on the Blue wire at the timer module connector. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the Blue wire between the interior fuse panel and the instrument cluster.
- Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the timer module connector. Buckle the left lap belt. Measure the resistance of the Green wire between terminal "S" of the timer module connector and ground. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the lap belt unbuckled and greater than 10,000 ohms with the lap belt buckled? If yes, go to step 25 . If no, go to next step.
- Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the left seat belt buckle switch connector located under the left (driver) seat. Measure the resistance of the Black wire between the left seat belt buckle switch connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, service Black wire.
- Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the timer module connector. Disconnect the left seat belt buckle switch connector located under the left (driver) seat. Measure the resistance of the Green wire between terminal "S" of the timer module connector and the left seat belt buckle switch connector. Measure the resistance of the Green wire between terminal "S" of the timer module connector and ground. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the timer module connector and the left seat belt buckle switch connector, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the timer module connector and ground? If yes, replace the left seat belt buckle switch. If no, service Green wire.
- Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the passive restraint control module connector located in the center console below radio. See Figure . Turn key to ON position. Ground the Blue/Yellow wire at the passive restraint control module connector. Does the warning chime sound when the Blue/Yellow wire is grounded? If yes, diagnose problem with passive restraint system. If no, go to next step.
- Turn key to OFF position. Disconnect the timer module connector. Disconnect the passive restraint control module connector. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Measure the resistance of the Blue/Yellow wire between the timer module connector and the passive restraint control module connector. Measure the resistance of the Blue/Yellow wire between the timer module connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the timer module connector and the passive restraint control module connector, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the timer module connector and ground? If yes, replace timer module. See TIMER MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If no, service Blue/Yellow wire.
