Pinpoint Test E: Indicator Lamp System

NOTE: Go to TROUBLE SHOOTING  before starting pinpoint test. Identify system where problem is located. Find symptom in trouble shooting and go to specific pinpoint test step as directed by trouble shooting procedure.

  1. Check Left Hand Turn Indicator Lamp Bulb

    Turn key OFF. Remove the instrument cluster. Remove the left hand turn indicator lamp bulb. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the left hand turn indicator lamp bulb. Is the resistance approximately 16 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the left hand turn indicator lamp bulb.
  2. Check (Red/Green) Wire Between Turn Signal Switch & Instrument Cluster For Open

    Turn key OFF. Disconnect the 11-pin combination switch connector located on the steering column. Disconnect the 10-pin instrument cluster connector. Measure the resistance of the (Red/Green) wire between Terminal No. 2C of the 11-pin combination switch connector and Terminal No. 1F of the 10-pin instrument cluster connector. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the (Red/Green) wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  3. Check (Red/Green) Wire Between Hazard Switch & Instrument Cluster For Open

    Turn key OFF. Disconnect the hazard switch connector located on the instrument panel. Disconnect the 10-pin instrument cluster connector. Measure the resistance of the (Red/Green) wire between Terminal F of the hazard switch connector and Terminal F of the 10-pin instrument cluster connector. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, replace the instrument cluster printed circuit board. If no, service the (Red/Green) wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  4. Check Right Hand Turn Indicator Lamp Bulb

    Turn key OFF. Remove the instrument cluster. Remove the right hand turn indicator lamp bulb. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the right hand turn indicator lamp bulb. Is the resistance approximately 16 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the right hand turn indicator lamp bulb.
  5. Check (Red/White) Wire Between Turn Signal Switch Instrument Cluster For Open

    Turn key OFF. Disconnect the 11-pin combination switch connector located on the steering column. Disconnect the 10-pin instrument cluster connector. Measure the resistance of the (Red/White) wire between Terminal No. 2E of the 11-pin combination switch connector and Terminal No. 1G of the 10-pin instrument cluster connector. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the (Red/White) wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  6. Check (Red/White) Wire Between Hazard Switch & Instrument Cluster For Open

    Turn key OFF. Disconnect the hazard switch connector. Disconnect the 10-pin instrument cluster connector. Measure the resistance of the (Red/White) wire between Terminal H of the hazard switch connector and Terminal No. 1G of the 10-pin instrument cluster connector. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, replace the instrument cluster printed circuit board. If no, service the (Red/White) wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  7. Check Turn Indicator Lamp Ground

    Turn key OFF. Remove the instrument cluster. Disconnect the 10-pin instrument cluster connector. Measure the resistance of the (Black) wire between Terminal No. 1I of the 10-pin instrument cluster connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to step  10 . If no, go to next step. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  8. Check Wire Between Instrument Cluster & Diode Junction Box

    Key OFF. Disconnect the 10-pin instrument cluster connector. Disconnect the center black diode strip from the diode junction box located behind the instrument cluster. Measure the resistance of the (Black) wire between Terminal No. I of the 10-pin instrument cluster connector and Terminal No. 14 of the diode junction box connector. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the (Black) wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  9. NOTE: The (Black/Red) wire splices into circuit EE01 (Black) wire.

  10. Check Diode Junction Box Ground
    Turn key OFF. Disconnect the center black diode strip from the diode junction box. Measure the resistance of the (Black/Red) wire between Terminal No. 15 of the diode junction box connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, replace the center black diode strip. If no, service the (Black/Red) and/or (Black) wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  11. Check Instrument Cluster

    Turn key OFF. Disconnect all of the instrument cluster connectors. Remove the left hand and right hand turn indicator lamp bulbs. Measure the resistance of the circuit between Terminal No. 1I on the 10-pin instrument cluster terminal and both turn indicator lamp bulb ground terminals. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, replace the turn indicator lamp bulbs. If no, replace the instrument cluster printed circuit board.
  12. Check Cruise Indicator Lamp Bulb

    Turn key OFF. Remove the instrument cluster. Remove the cruise indicator lamp bulb. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the cruise indicator lamp bulb. Is the resistance approximately 16 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the cruise indicator lamp bulb.
  13. Check Cruise Indicator Lamp Circuit

    Turn key OFF. Disconnect the speed control module connector located in the center console below the radio. Apply 12 volts to Terminal M of the speed control module harness connector. Does the cruise indicator lamp illuminate? If yes, see CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS to diagnose the speed control system. If no, got next step.
  14. Check Wire Between Speed Control Module & Instrument Cluster For Open

    Turn key OFF. Disconnect the white 12-pin instrument cluster connector. Disconnect the speed control module connector. Measure the resistance of the (Red/Yellow) wire between Terminal M of the speed control module connector and Terminal 3K of the white 12-pin instrument cluster connector. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the (Red/Yellow) wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  15. Check Wire Between Speed Control Module & Instrument Cluster For Short

    Turn key OFF. Disconnect the white 12-pin instrument cluster connector. Disconnect the speed control module connector. Measure the resistance of the (Red/Yellow) wire between Terminal M of the speed control module connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, service the (Red/Yellow) wire. If no, replace the instrument cluster printed circuit board. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  16. Check High Beam Indicator Lamp Bulb

    Turn key OFF. Remove the instrument cluster. Remove the high beam indicator lamp bulb. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the high beam indicator lamp bulb. Is the resistance approximately 16 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the high beam indicator lamp bulb.
  17. Check Wire Between Headlamp Right Hand Relay & Instrument Cluster

    Turn key OFF. Disconnect the white 12-pin instrument cluster connector. Turn the high beam headlamps on. Measure the voltage on Terminal 3A (Orange/Blue) at the white 12-pin instrument cluster connector. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the (Orange/Blue) wire between the HEADLAMP right hand relay and the instrument cluster. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  18. Check Wire Between Flash-To-Pass Switch & Instrument Cluster

    Turn key OFF. Disconnect the white 12-pin instrument cluster connector. Hold the flash-to-pass switch on. Measure the voltage on Terminal 3A (Orange/Blue) at the white 12-pin instrument cluster connector. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? If yes, replace the instrument cluster printed circuit board. If no, service the (Orange/Blue) wire between the combination switch and the instrument cluster. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  19. Check Cruise & High Beam Indicator Lamps Ground

    Turn key OFF. Remove the instrument cluster. Disconnect the white 12-pin instrument cluster connector. Measure the resistance of the (Black) wire between Terminal No. 3B of the white 12-pin instrument cluster connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to step  21 . If no, go to next step. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  20. Check Wire Between Instrument Cluster & Diode Junction Box

    Turn key OFF. Disconnect the white 12-pin instrument cluster connector. Disconnect the center black diode strip from the diode junction box located behind the instrument cluster. Measure the resistance of the (Black) wire between Terminal No. 3B of the white 12-pin instrument cluster connector and Terminal No. 14 of the diode junction box connector. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the (Black) wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  21. NOTE: The (Black/Red) wire splices into circuit EE01 (Black) wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .

  22. Check Diode Junction Box Ground
    Turn key OFF. Disconnect the center black diode strip from the diode junction box located behind the instrument cluster. Measure the resistance of the (Black/Red) wire between Terminal No. 15 of the diode junction box connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, replace the center black diode strip. If no, service the (Black/Red) and/or (Black) wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  23. Check Instrument Cluster Cruise & High Beam Circuit

    Turn key OFF. Disconnect all of the instrument cluster connectors. Remove the cruise and the high beam indicator lamp bulbs. Measure the resistance of the circuit between Terminal No. 3B on the white 12-pin instrument cluster terminal and the cruise indicator lamp bulb ground terminal. Measure the resistance of the circuit between Terminal No. 3B on the white 12-pin instrument cluster terminal and the high beam indicator lamp bulb ground terminal. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between Terminal No. 3B and the high beam indicator lamp bulb ground terminal, and approximately 56 ohms between Terminal No. 3B and the cruise indicator lamp bulb ground terminal? If yes, replace the cruise and the high beam indicator lamp bulbs. If no, replace the instrument cluster printed circuit board.
