DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A 
WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove brake linings (4) and brake caliper (2). INSTALLATION NOTES
The new brake caliper (2) is shipped in prefilled condition and it may not be drained.
Otherwise, the brake caliper (2) cannot be vented.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace the bolts (7) and spreader spring (5) when replacing the brake caliper (2).

2 Remove brake hose. Model 223

3 Unscrew guide pins and remove brake caliper (2). SPECIAL TOOL Guide bolts Fig 3
INSPECT Check     
4 Check brake caliper (2) and dust boots of brake pistons for leaktightness and damage. If there is a problem,

Replace brake caliper (2).
 
5.1 Check brake disk (6) for wear and condition. Model 223

    If there is a problem,

replace brake disks (6).

5.2 Check brake disk (6) for wear and condition. Model 223

    If there is a problem,

replace corresponding brake disk (6).

6 Check brake hose and brake line piece (99) for damage. NOTES
The brake line piece (99) of the brake hose may not be bent.
A bent brake line piece (99) can lead to functional impairment of the brake system.
If there is a problem,

Replace brake hose.

7 Install in the reverse order.    
  Concluding tasks     
8 Bleed brake system.   AR42.10-P-0010S 
9 Operate brake pedal several times until brake pads (4) make contact with brake disks (6). IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
10 Check and correct brake fluid level in brake fluid reservoir.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.10-P-4210G
11 Perform brake test on test stand.
