DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A 
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove cover over brake fluid reservoir.    
2 Clean area around cap of brake fluid reservoir Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
3 Remove cap of brake fluid reservoir and suction off some brake fluid. IMPORTANT This prevents the brake fluid reservoir from overflowing when the brake pistons are pushed back.  
4 Remove front wheels.   AR40.10-P-1102A
5 Disconnect electrical connector (2) of brake lining wear sensor from brake caliper (3). Only when removing right brake caliper (3).  
6 Remove electrical connector (2) from brake caliper (3). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 223 (except 223.182)

Bolt, brake wear sensor to brake caliper

7 Remove brake hose (4) from holder.    
8 Remove screws (1). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 223 (except 223.182)

except code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version)

Bolt, brake caliper to steering knuckle

9 Remove brake caliper (3) and secure to vehicle free of tension.    
10 Remove brake linings (5) with spreader spring (6) from brake caliper (3).    
11 Pull brake lining wear sensor out of backing plate of brake lining (5). When replacing brake lining (5) or right front brake lining wear sensor.  
INSPECT Check     
12 Check condition of spreader spring (6). If there is a problem,

replace spreader spring (6).
 
13 Check brake linings (5) for wear and condition.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   If there is a problem,

replace brake linings (5) as a set.

14 Check condition of brake disk.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   If there is a problem,

replace brake disks and brake linings (5) in sets.

15 Check brake caliper (3) for damage. If there is a problem,

replace brake caliper (3).
 
      AR42.10-P-0070S 
CLEANING Clean     
16 Clean contact surfaces of brake linings (5) on brake caliper (3). NOTES
Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects.
Otherwise the brake caliper (3) and the dust boot on the brake piston may be damaged.
 
    Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
17 Press back brake pistons all the way using pusher tool. SPECIAL TOOL Resetting device
If the brake pistons are sluggish,

replace brake caliper (3).

18 Install in the reverse order.    
19 Operate brake pedal several times until brake linings (5) make contact with brake disks. IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
INSPECT Check     
20 Check/correct brake fluid level in brake fluid reservoir.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.10-P-4210G
21 Perform brake test on test stand.
