Timing Gear Casing - Remove/Install Lower Cover - AR01.40-P-8002MFC

Do not fill Engine oil into beverage containers.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove Engine with transmission. Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 with transmission 724.1 AR01.10-P-2401MFJ 
    Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 with transmission 724.0
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only install upper Engine cover and lower Engine cover after leak test.

2 Remove transmission from Engine. Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 with transmission 724.0 AR27.10-P-0009MFC
    Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 with transmission 724.1 AR27.10-P-0009MFA
3 Attach Engine to assembly stand.    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 00 62 00 Load tilter   WS01.00-P-0102B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 27 31 00 Assembly stand for cars IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools 
Engine crane
IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.

4 Remove upper timing case cover (1).   AR01.40-P-8001MFC 
5 Remove refrigerant compressor.   AR83.55-P-5310MFD
6 Remove coolant pump. Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 except code B01 (48V technology) AR20.10-P-1271MFC
7 Remove clamping device from poly-V-belt. Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 except code B01 (48V technology) AR13.25-P-3220MFC
8 Remove torsional damper.   AR03.30-P-1600MFC
9 Remove oil pan.   AR01.45-P-7500MFC 
10 Release and disconnect electrical connector (6) from Engine oil pump valve (Y130).    
11 Unclip electrical wiring harness (2) from coolant line (3) and place to one side.    
12 Unscrew bolts (3s) and remove coolant line (3). SPECIAL TOOL Pliers for click clamps Fig 3

13 Unscrew screw (4s) of purge line (4) at timing case cover (13) and remove purge line (4). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace seal.  
14 Remove guide pulley (5). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, guide pulley to timing case cover *BA13.25-P-1002-01Z 
15 Unscrew screws (9). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, cylinder head to timing case cover *BA01.30-P-1002-01Y 
16 Remove screws (10) in reverse order to tightening procedure for timing case cover (13).   AR01.40-P-8000-01MFC 
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Pay attention to different lengths of screws.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, timing case cover to crankcase
*BA01.40-P-1001-01K 
17 Release and disconnect electrical connector (8) from Engine oil pump valve (Y130).    
18 Use suitable tool to remove timing case cover (13).
Notes on sealant path for timing case cover
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace front radial shaft sealing ring (11).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure that dowel pins (12) are seated correctly.

    Sealant, Loctite 5970, 50 ml *BR00.45-Z-1013-01A 
    SPECIAL TOOL Application gun Fig 2
19 Remove electrical connector (6) from timing case cover (13) with electric line (7) attached. If timing case cover (13) will be replaced.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace seal.
 
20 Clean sealing surfaces.   AH00.00-P-0500-01MNE
  Notes on application of flange sealants to seal major assemblies   *BR00.45-Z-1038-04A 
    NOTES Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper.
The sealing surfaces can be damaged otherwise.
Loctite 7200
AR01.00-P-0050-01A 
    Loctite 7063 (400 ml) cleaning spray *BR00.45-Z-1046-04A 
21 Install in the reverse order.    
INSPECT Check     
22 Check Engine oil level and correct if necessary.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP18.00-P-1812MFA
23 Check cooling system for leaks.   AR20.00-P-1010MFD
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when Engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the Engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
24 Perform Engine test run. While doing so, check Engine for proper operation and leak tightness.
