Remove/Install Camshaft Positioner - AR05.20-P-7204MFG

Engine 139 in model 118, 177, 247 

MODIFICATION NOTES

28.11.2022 The camshaft positioner (1) of the intake camshaft does not have a tensioning ring. The compression wheel sits loose on the camshaft positioner (1) of the intake camshaft and is not a reason to replace the camshaft positioner (1) of the intake camshaft. Operation step 5.

CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of engine oil. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing engine oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

Deburr repair panels.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove cylinder head cover. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only install upper engine cover after the leak test. AR01.20-P-5014MFG
2 Install brackets (6).   AR05.20-P-6020-03MFG

3 Rotate engine at center bolt of crankshaft to ignition TDC at cylinder 1.   AR01.10-P-1000-01MFG

4 Install holders (7).   AR05.20-P-6020-03MFG

5 Turn the intermediate gears (3a and 3b) with the counterholder of the assembly tool so that the locks (4) can be inserted into the openings (5) and the spur gears (3) are blocked. IMPORTANT The camshaft positioner (1) of the intake camshaft does not have a tensioning ring. The compression wheel sits loose on the camshaft positioner (1) of the intake camshaft and is not a reason to replace the camshaft positioner (1) of the intake camshaft.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Twist camshaft positioners (1) such that the openings (5) are in the 12 o'clock position.

6 Remove control valve (2) of the corresponding camshaft positioner (1).

REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS   NOTES Ensure that the control valve (2) of the exhaust camshaft is a left-hand thread. Otherwise, damage will occur when loosening or tightening.
NOTES Ensure that the control valve (2) of the intake camshaft is a right-hand thread. Otherwise, damage will occur when loosening or tightening.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Wet the thread and bolt head contact surface of the control valve (2) with engine oil.
Tighten control valve (2) uniformly without interruption to specified torque.
When tightening the control valve (2), the assembly torque must not be supported on the camshaft positioner (1).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace removed control valves (2).

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Center valve, pulse wheel/camshaft adjuster to camshaft *BA05.20-P-1002-02K

7 Remove corresponding camshaft positioner (1). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Camshaft positioners (1) may only be reused if they had no noticeable problems in prior operation.  
8 Install in the reverse order.    
INSPECT Check     
9 Turn engine at center bolt of crankshaft x 2 in direction of engine rotation to ignition TDC at cylinder 1.   AR01.10-P-1000-01MFG

10 Check basic position of camshafts.   AR05.20-P-6010MFG 
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
11 Perform engine test run; in this connection check engine for leak tightness and proper operation.    
12 Install upper engine cover.
