REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove right or left rear wheel and tire assembly.   AR40.10-P-1102ME
2 Remove trim (1).    
3 Remove fender liner in rear fender.   AR88.10-P-1302ME
4.1 Transfer the pneumatic pressure of the air suspension bellows into the central reservoir using the diagnostic system. Model 167
with code 489 (AIRMATIC Dual Control/semi-active air suspension) except code 490 (Electrohydraulic suspension)
 
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   NOTES AD00.00-P-2000-06ME
    The complete wheels must not touch the ground.
Otherwise, the air springs may be pre-damaged and subsequently malfunction.
IMPORTANT Select menu item "Actuations" in active suspension and damping system control unit.
 
WARNING Risk of injury  caused by pinching or crushing when working on springs or spring bodies that are under tension Use only approved tensioning devices; additionally screen off hazardous area if necessary. Check special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection). Wear protective gloves. AS00.00-Z-0001-01A
4.2 Tension rear axle spring. Model 167
except code 489 (AIRMATIC Dual Control/semi-active air suspension)
except code 490 (Electrohydraulic suspension)

    SPECIAL TOOL Tensioning device Fig 3
    SPECIAL TOOL Clamping plates Fig 2
5 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (min. 2 m).    
6 Raise wheel suspension slightly at supporting joint and support.    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 10 62 00 Support plate   WS26.00-P-3309B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 11 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0092B
7 Release and disconnect the electrical connections (4). Model 167 with code 489 (AIRMATIC Dual Control/semi-active air suspension)
except code 490 (Electrohydraulic suspension)
 
8 Remove bolts (2). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt/self-locking nut, shock absorber to frame floor assembly *BA32.25-P-1002-03K 
9 Remove bolt (3). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/self-locking nut, shock absorber to spring link *BA32.25-P-1001-03K 
10 Remove shock absorber (5).    
11 Check shock absorber (5). If shock absorber (5) is to be reused. AR32.25-P-0121ME 
12 Install in the reverse order.
