Remove/Install The Suspension Strut - AR32.25-P-1017FRA

Model 257, 290 with code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL) 

Shown on model 257 except code M005 (4MATIC) on left side of vehicle

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install

REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS
Drain pressure in AIR BODY CONTROL system using vehicle diagnosis system.   AD00.00-P-2000-06FR
2 Remove front wheel.   AR40.10-P-1102A
3 Disconnect electrical connectors (1) at suspension strut (2).    
4 Unclip electrical line (14) from suspension strut (2).    
5.1 Unclip electrical lines (15) from holders (16, 17). Model 257 with code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL) with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)  
Model 290 with code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL)  
5.2 Remove guide (3) from suspension strut (2) and place to one side with connected lines. Model 257 with code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL) except code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)  
6 Unhook brake hose (4) from holders at suspension strut (2).    
7 Remove suspension strut (2) from spring link (5). INSTALLATION NOTESInstallation: 
Bolt (6) must be inserted from the rear toward the front.
Otherwise the brake or the rim may be damaged.
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, suspension strut to spring control arm *BA32.25-P-1002-04P 
8 Secure steering knuckle (7) against folding down.    
9 Remove upper transverse control arm (8) from steering knuckle (7). NOTES
Counterhold the ball head and do not use an impact wrench/driver.
Otherwise, the ball head or steering knuckle (7) will be damaged.
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, steering knuckle to transverse control arm *BA33.20-P-1006-01U 
10.1 Remove cover (9). When removing the left suspension strut (2).  
10.2 Remove cover (10). When removing right suspension strut (2).  
11 Disconnect electrical connectors (13).    
12 Remove pressure line connection (11) from suspension strut (2). INSTALLATION NOTESInstallation: 
The thread on the compressed air line connection (11) may not be damaged. Otherwise, leaks will occur.
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 290 with code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL) Pressure line to air suspension *BA32.22-P-1007-03J 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 257 with code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL) Pressure line to air suspension *BA32.22-P-1006-03I 
SPECIAL TOOL Box wrench bit If thread is damaged, Fig 6
Repair pressure line connection (11). AR32.22-P-2001-01FR

13 Seal pressure line connection (11) and opening at suspension strut (2) with suitable stop plugs. SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 3
14 Unscrew nuts (12) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, strut to body *BA32.25-P-1001-04P 
15 Remove suspension strut (2) downwards. NOTES
Carefully remove suspension strut (2).
Otherwise the suspension strut joint can be damaged by the spring control arm (5).
 
NOTES
When extending suspension strut (2), do not tension the brake hose (4).
Otherwise the brake hose (4) may be damaged.
 
INSPECT Check     
16 Check condition of suspension strut (2). In the event of a problem,
 
Replace suspension strut (2).  
17 Measure length of new suspension strut (2) and compare dimension with value in leaflet. When replacing suspension strut (2). In the event of a problem,
 
Do not use suspension strut (2) and order a suitable suspension strut (2).  
18 Check condition of suspension strut joint at spring link (5). In the event of a problem,

Replace spring link (5).

19 Install in the reverse order.    
INSPECT Check

REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS
Read out and delete fault memory using vehicle diagnosis system.   AD00.00-P-2000-06FR
21 Check AIR BODY CONTROL for leak tightness. Model 290 with code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL) AR32.22-P-8101FRX
Model 257 with code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL) AR32.22-P-8101FR 
22 Check headlamp adjustment. When replacing components.  
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 290 with code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL) AP82.10-P-8260O
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 257 with code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL) AP82.10-P-8260L
