Remove/Install Rear Axle Spring - AR32.20-P-0232SG

Model 223 

with code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version)

WARNING Risk of injury  caused by pinching or crushing when working on springs or spring bodies that are under tension Use only approved tensioning devices; additionally screen off hazardous area if necessary. Check special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection). Wear protective gloves. AS00.00-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove corresponding rear wheel.   AR40.10-P-1102A
2 Reduce pneumatic pressure of suspension struts (2) using diagnostic system.    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   NOTES
The complete wheels must not touch the ground Otherwise the suspension struts (2) can be damaged and subsequently malfunction.

3 Remove tie rod.   AR35.20-P-0109SG
4 Insert clamping plates (4.1) into rear axle spring (1) as shown. NOTES
Check for correct seating of SPECIAL TOOL clamping plates (4.1).
Otherwise they may slip off.
IMPORTANTSPECIAL TOOL Insert clamping plates (4.1) in such a way that as many spring coils as possible can be pre-compressed.

5 Position tensioning device (4) at clamping plates (4.1) as shown and tension rear axle spring (1). NOTES
SPECIAL TOOL Tensioning device (4) must latch audibly into SPECIAL TOOL clamping plates (4.1).
Otherwise they may slip off.
NOTES
Do not use an impact wrench.
Otherwise, the SPECIAL TOOL tensioning device (4) or the rear axle spring (1) may be damaged.

6 Remove threaded connection (2.1) and remove suspension strut (2) at spring link (3). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, suspension strut at rear to spring control arm *BA32.25-P-1005-04O 
7 Loosen threaded connection (3.1) of spring link (3) at rear axle carrier. IMPORTANT Do not remove spring link (3) from rear axle carrier.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, Spring control arm to rear axle carrier
*BA35.20-P-1003-01J 
8 Support spring link (3) in area of wheel carrier with major assembly mount.    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 24 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0253B
9 Remove threaded connection (3.2) of spring link (3) at wheel carrier. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, spring control arm to wheel carrier *BA35.20-P-1002-01J 
10 Lower major assembly mount and fold spring link (3) downward and remove rear axle spring (1) with spring seat (1.1). NOTES
Fold spring link (3) downward carefully.
Otherwise wheel carrier will be damaged.
IMPORTANT Clean spring link (3) in area of contact of rear axle spring (1).
 
11 Carefully release tensioning device (4) and remove rear axle spring (1). SPECIAL TOOL Clamping plate Fig 1

12 Check spring seat (1.1) for damage. If there is a problem,

replace spring seat (1.1).
 
13 Repair paint damage at rear axle spring (1). When reinstalling rear axle spring (1).
NOTES
Only repair paint damage using a black touch-up paint pen.
Otherwise it could lead to confusion with the color marking of the rear axle springs (1).
 
14 Install in the reverse order.
