REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Fully retract roller sunblind.    
2 Remove seat backrests in the rear passenger compartment. Model 223
with code 223 (Electric backrest adjustment and head restraints)
with code 224 (Rear individual seat design)
with code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version)

3 Remove trims at C-pillar.   AR68.30-P-4490S 
4 Remove trim strips behind rear seat. Model 223
with code 223 (Electric backrest adjustment and head restraints)
with code 224 (Rear individual seat design) with code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version)

5 Unscrew screws (2), pull guide rails (3) at rear shelf (1) toward front and remove.    
6 Unclip expansion rivets (4) at rear shelf (1) and remove. SPECIAL TOOL Dismantling tool Fig 1
7 Remove trims of battery of 12 V on-board electrical system in trunk. Model 223 with engine 279
with code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version)

8 Remove brackets (13).    
9 Remove control unit bracket (14) with connected wiring harness and set aside.    
10 Remove nuts (5). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, rear panel guard plate to body shell *BA64.10-P-1002-01E 
11 Unscrew screws (6) and remove armor plate (7). IMPORTANT Helper required.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, rear panel guard plate to body shell *BA64.10-P-1001-01E 
12 Remove dampings (8).    
13 Remove nuts (9).    
14 Release and disconnect electrical connectors (11) in area of C-pillars.    
15 Extend rear shelf (1) toward front and remove upwards. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure brackets (12) are correctly seated on rear-end floor (10) (arrows).  
16 Install in the reverse order.
