Remove/Install Battery - AR54.10-P-0005LC

DANGER Risk of fire  /risk of explosion due to short circuit and escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of (burn) injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte/mist, short circuit and arcing. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte or absorption of lead through the skin or body orifices. Risk of death  due to voltage U >= 30 V AC and U >= 60 V DC. No fires, sparks, open flames, or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing, and glasses. Pour battery acid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A 
WARNING Risk of injury  . Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area of mechanical components when moving components. AS00.00-Z-0009-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Print out checklist for transport safety of on-board electrical system battery (2). Model 217.3
with code U98 (LITHIUM-ION STARTER BATTERY (LISB))
When replacing the on-board electrical system battery (2).

2 Answer questions on installed on-board electrical system battery (2) based on checklist for transport safety. Model 217.3
with code U98 (LITHIUM-ION STARTER BATTERY (LISB))
When replacing the on-board electrical system battery (2).
 
3 Switch off all electrical consumers. NOTES
Switch off all electrical consumers.
Otherwise, electrical consumers will be damaged when disconnecting/connecting the ground line (1).
 
4 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (min. 2 m).    
5 Remove front trunk lining.   AR68.30-P-4600LC
6 Disconnect ground line (1) from on-board electrical system battery (2). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, charging cable to negative terminal/positive terminal of on-board electrical system battery *BA54.10-P-1003-01J 
7 Confirm change of on-board electrical system battery (G1) using diagnosis system in signal acquisition and actuation module under Actuation menu item. Model 217.3

When replacing the on-board electrical system battery (2).
 
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   IMPORTANT This updates the charging characteristic for the on-board electrical system battery (G1). AD00.00-P-2000-04B
8 Release and disconnect electrical connection (3).    
9 Release and disconnect electrical connector (4). Model 217.3
with code U98 (LITHIUM-ION STARTER BATTERY (LISB))
 
10 Remove POSITIVE terminal cover (5).    
11 Disconnect positive line (6) from on-board electrical system battery (2). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, charging cable to negative terminal/positive terminal of on-board electrical system battery *BA54.10-P-1003-01J 
12 Detach vent hose (7) from elbow fitting (8). INSTALLATION NOTES
Make sure that the vent hose (7) is seated and routed correctly.
Otherwise damage may occur because of leaking battery acid vapor.
 
13 Unclip, release and disconnect electrical connector (9) at shackle (10).    
14 Place electric lines (11) to one side.    
15 Remove nut (12). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, tensioning strap to battery frame *BA54.10-P-1002-01J 
16 Remove shackle (10) from threaded pin (13). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Do not install the tensioning strap (14) twisted.  
17 Remove on-board electrical system battery (2) from battery carrier (15). NOTES
Carefully remove the on-board electrical system battery (2) from the battery carrier (15).
Otherwise the threaded pin (13) can damage the on-board electrical system battery (2).
 
18 Install in the reverse order.    
19 Answer questions on removed on-board electrical system battery (2) based on checklist for transport safety. Model 217.3
with code U98 (LITHIUM-ION STARTER BATTERY (LISB))
When replacing the on-board electrical system battery (2).
