Search and symbol illumination
The search and symbol lighting illuminates all control elements as well as the lighting of the vehicle interior. The brightness of the search and symbol lighting can be adjusted manually.
The search and symbol lighting helps the driver to find important control elements and to look for objects in the vehicle without having to switch on the ignition or the exterior lighting.
The search and symbol illumination is switched on by unlocking the vehicle remotely, by opening a vehicle door or by changing the status of circuit 15. The luminosity of the search and symbol lighting can be continuously adjusted using the instrument lighting brightness control in the center instrument panel button group (up to model year 2018) or in the exterior lighting switch (as of model year 2018). The front SAM control unit reads in the signals of the instrument lighting brightness control via the instrument panel LIN (up to model year 2018) or directly (as of model year 2018) and sends them via the interior CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and the user interface CAN to the instrument cluster.
After unlocking the vehicle or opening a vehicle door, the search and symbol illumination is switched on with 100 % luminosity.
The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of the central locking system and the status of circuit 15 over the user interface CAN to the instrument cluster.
The front door control units send the status of the front doors (open or closed) via the interior CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and user interface CAN to the instrument cluster.
The rear door control units (model 222) send the status of the rear doors (open or closed) via the interior CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and the user interface CAN to the instrument cluster.
The instrument cluster evaluates all incoming information, generates the circuit 58d signal and transmits it via the user interface CAN to the following control units to activate the search and symbol illumination:
- COMAND controller unit (up to model year 2018) or head unit (as of model year 2018)
- Electronic ignition switch control unit
The instrument cluster directly actuates the instrument cluster illumination (up to model year 2018).
The COMAND controller unit (up to model year 2018) or the head unit (as of model year 2018) actuates the integrated control elements and sends the circuit 58d signal via the telematics CAN to the following control units, which then switch on the integrated control elements:
- Left rear display (model 222 with code 864 (Rear Seat Entertainment system))
