Manual interior lights control in general
The manual interior lighting control makes it possible to switch the interior lighting, the reading lights, the sun visor mirror lamps and the glove compartment lighting on and off.
The manual interior lights control function encompasses the following subfunctions:
- Interior illumination
- Reading lights
- Sun visor mirror lamp
- Glove compartment illumination
Interior illumination
The overhead control panel control unit directly reads in the status of the dome lamp buttons and sends it via roof LIN (up to model year 2018) or interior CAN (as of model year 2018) to the front SAM control unit.
In vehicles as of model year 2018, the interior lighting in the rear passenger compartment can also be operated via the voice control system. Corresponding requests are sent by the head unit via user interface CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.
The front SAM control unit sends the request to switch on the interior lighting via roof LIN (up to model year 2018) or via interior CAN (as of model year 2018) to the overhead control panel control unit, which in turn actuates the corresponding components parts.
The following components of the interior illumination are switched on or off manually by operating the front dome lamp button:
- Left reading lamp
- Right reading lamp
- Front dome lamp
The following components of the interior illumination are switched on or off manually by operating the rear dome lamp button:
- Rear interior lamp (model 217)
- Left rear interior lamp (model 222)
- Right rear interior lamp (model 222)
- Left rear vanity mirror dome lamp (model 222)
- Right rear vanity mirror dome lamp (model 222)
The following components are also directly actuated by the front SAM control unit:
- Right front footwell lamp
- Left front footwell lamp
- Left rear footwell lamp
- Right rear footwell lamp
Reading lights
The reading illumination serves to illuminate a defined area in front of the user, without having a distracting dazzling effect on the driver. The overhead control panel control unit directly reads in the status of the corresponding button and sends it via roof LIN (up to model year 2018) or interior CAN (as of model year 2018) to the front SAM control unit.
In vehicles as of model year 2018, the front reading lights can also be operated via the voice control system. Corresponding requests are sent by the head unit via user interface CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.
The front SAM control unit sends the request to switch on the reading lights via roof LIN (up to model year 2018) or via interior CAN (as of model year 2018) to the overhead control panel control unit, which in turn actuates the corresponding components parts.
The following reading illumination components can be switched on or off manually by pressing the corresponding button:
- Left reading lamp through left front reading lamp button
- Right reading lamp through right front reading lamp button
- Left rear reading lamp using left rear dome lamp button (model 222)
- Right rear reading lamp using right rear dome lamp button (model 222)
Model 222
When a rear dome lamp button is first pressed, the rear vanity mirror dome lamp is actuated along with the rear reading lamp. When the rear dome lamp button is pressed a second time, only the rear reading lamp is actuated.
Sun visor mirror lamp
The sun visor mirror lamps can be manually switched on or off by opening or closing the corresponding mirror cover:
- Left sun visor mirror lamp via the left front mirror lamp switch
- Right sun visor mirror lamp over the right front mirror lamp switch
- Left rear vanity mirror illumination via left rear vanity mirror illumination switch (model 222)
- Right rear vanity mirror illumination via right rear vanity mirror illumination switch (model 222)
To preserve the on-board electrical system battery (G1), the power supply is interrupted 30 min. after circuit 15 OFF. The power supply to the sun visor mirror lamps is switched off when the vehicle is locked via the central locking system.
Additional function requirements for glove compartment illumination
- Circuit 15R ON
The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of circuit 15 to the front SAM control unit via the interior CAN.
Glove compartment illumination
The glove compartment lamp switch is supplied with voltage by the front SAM control unit. Voltage is switched through to the glove compartment lamp by opening the glove compartment door. After circuit 15C is switched off, the glove compartment lamp is switched off after 30 s.
