| Remove/install | |||
| 1 | Move steering wheel forward and upward. | ||
| 2 | Deactivate easy entry and exit feature for steering wheel. | Model 223 with code 275 (Memory Package (driver's seat, steering column and mirror)) |

| 3 | Remove trim at bottom for instrument panel on driver's side. | AR68.10-P-1501S | |
| 4 | Turn steering wheel until screw (2) is accessible. | ||
| 5 | Remove bolt (2). | ||

| 6 | Turn steering gear to center position (front wheels in straight-ahead position) and fix steering wheel in place using holding device. | Do not turn steering wheel when steering coupling is removed. Otherwise the clock spring contact will be destroyed. |

| 7 | Detach steering shaft (1) from steering column tube (3). | ||
| 8 | Disconnect steering coupling from steering shaft (1). | AR46.10-P-8000S | |
| 9 | Unclip retaining clips (arrows A) and remove steering shaft (1) with boot (4) upward. | Ensure that the retaining clips (arrows A) are correctly engaged. Otherwise, driver assistance systems may malfunction. |

| 10 | Remove boot (4) from steering shaft (1) in direction of arrow (arrow B). | Attach seal all the way around in area (arrow C). Otherwise, engine noise may be heard in the vehicle interior. |

| 11 | Install in the reverse order. |
