The following steps are shown on model 223.1 on the left side of the vehicle and must be similarly performed on the right side of the vehicle in the event of damage.
The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
The graphics show the vehicle from the mechanic's perspective. At the same time, this perspective also specifies the direction in which the rivets must be placed.
- Install repair duplicators (5, 6), fit, and fix in place.
- Drill rivet holes in repair duplicators (5, 6) with Ø 6.7 mm (areas A, B).
- Countersink rivet holes (areas A, B).
- Remove repair duplicators (5, 6).
- Deburr rivet holes in repair duplicators (5, 6) and in the body on both sides.
- Remove drilling chips.
- Apply the 2-component adhesive to the mating surfaces of the repair duplicators (5, 6).
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Install repair duplicators (5, 6) and fix in place.
- Rivet repair duplicators (5, 6) with countersunk-head rivets Ø 6.4x15.5 (areas Z2
).
- Transfer existing holes in the body to the inner A-pillar reinforcement (2) with drill hole finder (areas F, N).
- Install, fit and fix in place inner A-pillar reinforcement (2).
- Drill rivet holes in the inner A-pillar reinforcement (2) with Ø 6.7 mm (areas C, D, E, F, N).
- Countersink rivet holes (areas C, D, E, N).
- Punch rivet holes in the inner A-pillar reinforcement (2) with Ø 6.0 mm with rivet press tool (area G).
- Remove inner A-pillar reinforcement (2).
- Deburr rivet holes in inner A-pillar reinforcement (2) and in the body on both sides.
- Remove drilling chips.
- Insert foam part with sealing compound (area H).
When replacing the foam part (area H).
- Apply sealing compound to the foam part in the cross-hatched area (area H).
- Apply 2-component adhesive to body in cross-hatched areas.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Install inner A-pillar reinforcement (2) and fix in place.
- Rivet inner A-pillar reinforcement (2) with rivets Ø 6.5x14.5 (area Y3 ).
- Rivet inner A-pillar reinforcement (2) with countersunk-head rivets Ø 6.4x15.5 (areas Z2 ).
- Rivet inner A-pillar reinforcement (2) with countersunk-head rivets Ø 6.4x17.0 (area Z3 ).
- Rivet inner A-pillar reinforcement (2) with flow-form rivets with countersunk head 4.0 mm to 5.15 mm clamping range (area X4 ).
- Transfer existing holes in the body to the outer A-pillar reinforcement (1) with drill hole finder (area M).
- Install outer A-pillar reinforcement (1), fit and fix in place.
- Drill rivet holes in the outer A-pillar reinforcement (1) with Ø 6.7 mm (areas J, K, L, M).
Drill rivet holes through the existing holes in the outer A-pillar reinforcement (1) (areas K, L).
- Remove outer A-pillar reinforcement (1).
- Deburr rivet holes in outer A-pillar reinforcement (1) and in the body on both sides.
- Remove drilling chips.
- Apply 2-component adhesive to body in cross-hatched areas.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Rivet outer A-pillar reinforcement (1) with rivets Ø 6.5x12.5 (areas Y2 ).
- Rivet outer A-pillar reinforcement (1) with rivets Ø 6.5x14.5 (areas Y3
).
