MODIFICATION NOTES

17.03.2023 Remove noise protection mat in working area, added. Operation step 6  

IMPORTANT The following steps are shown on model 223.1 on the left side of the vehicle and must be similarly performed on the right side of the vehicle in the event of damage.

The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.

  1. Mark separating point on outer side longitudinal member (1) and separate (area A).

    NOTES Do not cut too deeply.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

    IMPORTANTDimensions: 

    a = 133 mm

  2. Transfer separating point to inner side longitudinal member and mark.

    IMPORTANT Marking serves as reference line for positioning openings for inserting rivets.

  3. Press out self-piercing rivets on outer side longitudinal member (1) using a rivet press tool (area B).

  4. Heat outer side longitudinal member (1) in the cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Heat outer side longitudinal member (1) on inside (areas C).

    Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  5. Remove outer side longitudinal member (1).

  6. Remove noise protection mat in working area.
  7. Mark positions of openings for inserting rivets on inner side longitudinal member.

    IMPORTANTDimensions: 

    b1 = 56 mm

    b2 = 30 mm

    b3 = 63 mm

  8. Prepare openings with Ø 14 mm on inner side longitudinal member.
  9. Grind mating surfaces in area of openings down to bare metal.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.

  10. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.

  11. Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
