The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle for model 223.1 and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle. The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
The graphics show the vehicle from the mechanic's perspective. At the same time, this perspective also specifies the direction in which the rivets must be placed.
- Install rear panel (1), fit, and fix in place.
- Drill rivet holes in the rear panel (1) with ø 6.7 mm (areas A, B).
- Countersink rivet holes in the rear panel (1) (areas B).
- Punch rivet hole in the rear panel (1) with ø 6.0 mm using rivet press tool (area C).
- Drill hole for screw in the rear panel (1) with ø 6.5 mm (area D).
- Remove rear wall (1).
- Deburr rivet holes in the rear panel (1) and body on both sides.
- Remove drilling chips.
- Apply 2-component adhesive to body in cross-hatched areas.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Install rear wall (1) and fix in place.
- Rivet rear panel (1) with ø 6.5x12.5 rivets (areas Y2 ).
- Rivet rear panel (1) with ø 6.5x14.5 rivets (areas Y3 ).
- Rivet rear panel (1) with ø 6.4x15.7 rivet (area Y4 ).
- Rivet rear panel (1) with ø 6.3x14.5 countersunk-head rivets (areas Z1 ).
- Rivet rear panel (1) with ø 6.3x16 countersunk-head rivets (areas Z2 ).
- Rivet rear panel (1) with flow-form rivet structure 2.3 mm to 3.5 mm clamping range using rivet press tool (area W1 ).
- Position screw M6x16 (2).
- Tighten nut M6 (3).
