IMPORTANT The following steps are shown on model 223.1 on the left side of the vehicle and must be similarly performed on the right side of the vehicle in the event of damage.

The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.

The graphics show the vehicle from the mechanic's perspective. At the same time, this perspective also specifies the direction in which the rivets must be placed.

  1. Install upper front longitudinal member (1) and lower front longitudinal member (2), fit with SPECIAL TOOL positioning device, and fix in place.
  2. Drill rivet holes on upper front longitudinal member (1) and lower front longitudinal member (2) with a Ø 6.7 mm bit (areas A, B).
  3. Countersink rivet holes on lower front longitudinal member (2) (area B).
  4. Punch rivet holes o the front-top longitudinal member (1) and front bottom longitudinal member (2) with Ø 6.0 mm using a rivet press tool (area C).
  5. Remove upper front longitudinal member (1), lower front longitudinal member (2), and SPECIAL TOOL positioning device.
  6. Deburr rivet holes on upper front longitudinal member (1), lower front longitudinal member (2), and on body on both sides.
  7. Remove drilling chips.

  8. Apply 2-component adhesive to body in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  9. Apply 2-component adhesive in cross-hatched areas on lower front longitudinal member (2).

  10. Install upper front longitudinal member (1) and lower front longitudinal member (2) with SPECIAL TOOL positioning device and fix in place.
  11. Rivet upper front longitudinal member (1) and lower front longitudinal member (2) with Ø 6.4 M6 rivets (areas Y4 ).
  12. Rivet upper front longitudinal member (1) and lower front longitudinal member (2) with rivets Ø 6.5x14.5 (areas Y3 ).
  13. Rivet upper front longitudinal member (1) with rivets Ø 6.5x12.5 (area Y2 ).
  14. Rivet upper front longitudinal member (1) and lower front longitudinal member (2) with countersunk-head rivet Ø 6.4x19.0 (area Z4 ).
  15. Rivet upper front longitudinal member (1) and lower front longitudinal member (2) with flow-form rivet structure with a 3.5 mm clamping range (areas W1 ).

  16. Create MIG weld seam SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (area EE) on upper front longitudinal member (1).

    Only on right hand side of vehicle.

    IMPORTANT Theft-relevant component.

  17. SPECIAL TOOL Remove positioning device.
