| Remove/install | |||
| 1 | Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m). | ||

| 3 | Remove expansion rivets (2) from left and right fender liner (3). | Fig 1 | |
| 4 | Press fender liner (3) to the side and unscrew left and right screws (4) on rear bumper (1). | ||
| 5.1 | Unscrew left and right screws (5.2) on rear bumper (1). | Model 223.0/1/9 with engine 176, 256 Model 223.1/9 with engine 279 | |
| 5.2 | Remove rear underfloor paneling. | Model 223.0/1 with engine 656 | |

| 6 | Unscrew left and right screws (5.1) on rear bumper (1). | ||
| 7 | Remove rear-end center-section trim. | AR68.30-P-4786S | |
| 8 | Remove nuts (6). | ||
| 9 | Unclip left and right rear bumper (1) from the holders (8, 9) in the top area (arrows). | Rear lamps or rear fenders may otherwise be damaged. |

| 10 | Remove rear bumper (1) until the electrical connectors (7) are accessible. | ||
| 11 | Disconnect electrical connectors (7). | ||
| 12 | Remove rear bumper (1). | ||
| 13 | Install in the reverse order. |
