MODIFICATION NOTES

24.08.2021 Cut weld seams. Operation step 8  

IMPORTANT The following operation steps are shown on model 223.1.

The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.

  1. Expose spot welds on rear-end center section paneling (1) and on bottom rear-end center section (2) and cut out (areas A).
  2. Drill out self-piercing rivets in rear-end center section paneling (1) and in bottom rear-end center section (2) with ø 6 mm (areas B).
  3. Expose clinch connections on rear-end center section paneling (1) and on bottom rear-end center section (2) and drill out with ø 6 mm (areas C).
  4. Remove pins (3).

    IMPORTANT The following operation steps 5, 6, 7, 8 are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed similarly on the right side of the vehicle.

  5. Expose spot weld on bottom rear-end center section (2) and cut off (area B).
  6. Press out self-piercing rivets on bottom rear-end center section (2) with rivet press tool (areas E).
  7. Expose clinch connections on the bottom rear-end center section (2) and drill through with ø 6 mm (areas F).
  8. Cut weld seams on lower rear-end center section (2) (areas G).

    IMPORTANT The following operation steps 9 and 10 are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.

  9. Heat bottom rear-end center section (2) and strut (4) in the cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  10. Remove strut (4).

  11. Heat rear-end center section paneling (1) and bottom rear-end center section (2) in the cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  12. Bend up connecting flange on the rear lamp reinforcements (arrows).
  13. Remove rear-end center section paneling (1) and rear-end center section lower part (2).

  14. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.

  15. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.

    The operation step is shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.

  16. Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
