Location
The reversing camera forms a single component with the reversing camera (RFK) control unit (B84/3) (model 447.6/7, 448.7 with code W65 (Liftgate)) or the reversing camera (RFK) control unit (B84/5) (model 447.8, 448.8) or the rear-end door reversing camera (RFK) control unit (B84/10) (model 447.6/7, 448.7 with code W50 (Two-wing rear-end door, 180 degrees without window) or with code W54 (Two-wing rear-end door, 270 degrees)), and it is located in the handle strip of the liftgate or in the license plate molding of the left rear-end door.
Task
The backup camera does the following:
- Recording of the area to the rear of the vehicle
- Reading in of signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Output of signals
Recording of the area to the rear of the vehicle
The reversing camera is an optical parking aid. Its tasks include the recording of images of the area to the rear of the vehicle, the generation of dynamic guide lines and transmission of picture signals to the radio (Audio) (N87/2) (model 447.6/7, 448.7) or the radio (Audio/COMAND) (N87/6) (MODEL 447.8, 448.8). The recorded pictures are processed and electronically corrected.
Reading in of signals
The following information is also read in over the front end CAN (CAN G) (model 447.6/7, 448.7) or over the user interface CAN (CAN HMI) (model 447.8, 448.8):
- Circuit 15 status
- Reverse gear or gear range "R" engaged
- Service mode request (model 447.8, 448.8)
- Displayed vehicle speed

Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated and corresponding signals are issued.
Output of signals
The signals are issued through the following connections:
- Low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line
- Front end CAN (CAN G) (model 447.6/7, 448.7)
- User interface CAN (CAN HMI) (model 447.8, 448.8)
Low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line
The picture signals are sent over the low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line to the radio (audio) (N87/2) (model 447.6/7, 448.7) or the radio (Audio/COMAND) (N87/6) (model 447.8, 448.8).
Front end CAN (CAN G) (model 447.6/7, 448.7)
The following signals also read out issued via front end CAN (CAN G):
- Request for video playback
- Request for opening and closing camera cover (with CODE W65 (Liftgate))

User interface CAN (CAN HMI) (model 447.8, 448.8)
