Location
The multifunction camera (MFK) control unit is located in the center at the top on the windshield behind a paneling.
Task
The multifunction camera (MFK) control unit records information surrounding the front of the vehicle, e.g. ambient brightness, objects or traffic signs. These are evaluated by the integrated control unit, and used for implementing various functions.
This results in the following tasks:
- Reading in of signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Controlling functions
- Actuation of components
- Transmission of signals and requests
Reading in of signals
The multifunction camera (MFK) control unit reads in, among others, the following signals, which have partially been forwarded, from the electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit (N73) via front end CAN (CAN G):
- Terminal status 15
- Engine running or drive train operational
- Wheel speed
- Vehicle speed
- Vehicle lateral and longitudinal acceleration
- Information indicative of driver activity, such as turn signaling, accelerating, braking, steering
- Information indicating possible distraction of the driver, such as operation of the audio system, different comfort functions (interior illumination) and different menu levels in the instrument cluster (IC) control unit (A1/1)

Evaluation of input factors
The input factors are evaluated by the microprocessor and the corresponding components are actuated.

The multifunction camera (MFK) control unit controls the following functions:
- Lane Keeping Assist (with CODE JW5 (Lane Keeping Assist))
- Traffic Sign Assist (with CODE JA9 (Traffic Sign Assist)) (model 447.8 or model 448.8)
- High beams assistant (with CODE LG2 (LED Intelligent Light System))

The multifunction camera (MFK) control unit evaluates sources of light in the front of the vehicle.
Actuation of components
To avoid any fogging in the multifunction camera (MFK) control unit's field of view, the front window is heated in this area by the multifunction camera windshield heater field (R22/7). The multifunction camera windshield heater field is actuated directly by the multifunction camera (MFK) control unit.
Transmission of signals and requests
The multifunction camera (MFK) control unit transmits the following signals and requests, among others:
- Ambient brightness
- Actuate steering wheel vibration motor (M99) (with CODE JW5 (Lane Keeping Assist))
- Actuate adaptive high beams and perform optical headlamp range adjustment (with CODE LG2 (LED Intelligent Light System))
- Display traffic signs (with CODE JA9 (Traffic Sign Assist)) (model 447.8 or model 448.8)

The multifunction camera (MFK) control unit must be newly calibrated after replacement of the multifunction camera (MFK) control unit or the windshield.
