Mobile telephone system, general 

The mobile phone system uses Bluetooth® technology for data transfer for the basic telephony.

IMPORTANT A mobile phone authorized on the radio (Audio) can also be used as a payback device as part of Bluetooth® audio, cf, "Audio mode, function document.

The radio (Audio) sends and receives telephone signals via an integrated Bluetooth® antenna. The radio (Audio) generates the display indications and sends them to the integrated display.

The mobile phone system includes the following areas:

Bluetooth® 

Using Bluetooth®, it is possible to quickly and easily connect mobile terminals that support the corresponding profiles to the mobile phone system. Bluetooth® is a worldwide open standard for connecting Bluetooth® devices (e.g. mobile phone) wirelessly and is based on radio technology in the 2.4 GHz range. One advantage of Bluetooth®, in addition to the wide availability of Bluetooth® devices, is the uncomplicated and spontaneous connection of Bluetooth® devices. The extremely high data security (128-bit encoding) and the relatively limited radius (approx. 10 m) of this type of Bluetooth® network are what makes the use of Bluetooth® in the vehicle interesting. The radio (Audio) can integrate mobile phones via the Bluetooth® interface of the mobile phone and the integrated Bluetooth® antenna into the vehicle hierarchy. The radio (Audio) automatically searches for the last two connected mobile phones and connects to the mobile phone that responds first.

IMPORTANT If the mobile phone is not automatically connected to the radio (Audio) or if the radio (Audio) is to establish a connection to another mobile phone, the connection must be made manually via the telephone base function. Authorized telephones can be selected from a list. Non-authorized telephones must be authorized first. Up to 15 mobile phones can be authorized at the same time. When authorizing a new telephone if 15 telephones are already authorized, the user is prompted to first delete one of the existing data records. Detailed information on authorization is available in the respective operator's manual.

Switch on/off characteristics 

A mobile phone operated via Bluetooth® is switched on and off on the mobile phone itself. The Personal Identification Number (PIN) prompt, if configured on the mobile phone and it is transmitting the status, occurs on the mobile phone only and the PIN has to be entered into the mobile phone. After logging into the mobile telephone network of the mobile telephone network provider, an operational readiness symbol of the mobile phone and the signal level appear on the display of the radio (Audio). The switch-off signal via the mobile phone button is processed internally in the mobile phone. If the rechargeable battery of the mobile phone is empty, the mobile phone is also switched off. The message "Ready for Bluetooth® telephony" appears on the display of the radio (Audio) and the search for recently used mobile phones automatically resumes.

The "On" button on the radio (Audio) can be used to switch the radio (Audio) on and off.

Call signal 

The radio (Audio) receives the call signal via the integrated Bluetooth® antenna from the mobile phone. On vehicles with CODE EL8 (Two-way front speaker) or with CODE EL9 (Two-way front and rear speaker), the radio (Audio) forwards the call signal via direct lines to the speaker system.

The radio (Audio) mutes the currently active audio source (e.g. during radio mode) and displays the caller ID via the integrated display of the radio (Audio) and also via interior CAN (CAN B) in the instrument cluster (IC [KI]) control unit.

Establish, end, accept, or reject call 

Telephone numbers can be entered using a character bar on the integrated display of the radio (Audio) or they can be searched for and selected in call lists or in the address book. The mobile phone system can be operated using the following components:

Mobile phone 

Operation of the mobile phone is processed internally, and status changes are received via the integrated Bluetooth® antenna by the radio (Audio).

Telephone buttons or keypad on the radio (Audio) 

The control signals from the buttons on the radio (Audio) are processed internally, the status changes are output via the integrated display.

Multifunction steering wheel button groups (With Code CL4 (Multifunction steering wheel with trip computer)) 

The control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups are forwarded to the radio (Audio) via the following route:

Using the phone in hands-free mode 

The voice input in hands-free mode is registered by the hands-free system microphone and forwarded to the radio (Audio). The radio (Audio) sends the signals via integrated Bluetooth® antenna to the mobile phone. The radio (Audio) receives the incoming voice signals via the integrated Bluetooth® antenna from the mobile phone and forwards them, on vehicles with CODE EL8 (Two-way front speaker) or with CODE EL9 (Two-way front and rear speaker), via direct lines to the speaker system.

Phone book 

The phone book contains the phone book entries stored in the radio (Audio). The user can manage (view and delete) his contact data in the telephone book. The system can be provided with the stored information via the phone book entries and the connection established immediately.

IMPORTANT Read access to the phone book of the mobile phone is provided if the mobile phone supports the Bluetooth Phonebook Access Profile (PBAP). Otherwise, the data from the phone book of the mobile phone can only be transmitted as "vCards" to the radio (Audio).

Speed-dial list 

The speed dial list consists of up to ten telephone numbers to which phone book entries can be assigned with digits from 0 to 9. The user can manage the entries using the "Call lists" and "Speed dial list" menu entries. The speed dial list is active only when the "Telephone" menu is active.
