Function requirements, general

Symbol and ambiance illumination in general

The symbol and ambiance illumination feature provides the brightness-adjustable illumination of all controls as well as the illumination of the vehicle interior.

Symbol and ambiance illumination encompasses the following subfunctions:

Function sequence for switch and controls and symbol illumination

Activating the switch and controls and symbol illumination makes it easier for the driver to find important controls and look for objects in the vehicle without having to switch on the ignition or the exterior lights to do so.

The switch and controls and symbol illumination is switched on by unlocking the vehicle remotely, by opening a vehicle door or by changing the status of circuit 15.

Model 447.8, model 448.8

The luminosity to be used to implement the switch and controls and symbol illumination can be continuously adjusted using the instrument illumination brightness control in the illumination switch.

The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit reads in the signals of the instrument illumination brightness control directly and transmits these via interior CAN, the gateway for user interface CAN and the user interface CAN to the instrument cluster (IC) control unit.

Model 447.6/7, model 448.7

The luminosity to be used to implement the switch and controls and symbol illumination can be adjusted using the following buttons in the instrument cluster (IC [KI]) control unit:

The instrument cluster (IC [KI]) control unit directly reads in the signals of the instrument, switch and controls illumination buttons, bright and dark (without CODE CL4 (Multifunction steering wheel with trip computer)).

The instrument cluster (IC [KI]) control unit reads in the signals of the left and right multifunction steering wheel button group (with CODE CL4 (Multifunction steering wheel with trip computer)) via steering wheel electronics, steering LIN, steering column tube module control unit (MRM) and chassis CAN.

After unlocking the vehicle or opening a vehicle door, the switch and controls and symbol illumination is switched on with 100 % luminosity.

Model 447.8, model 448.8

The electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit transmits the status of the central locking (CL) and the status of circuit 15 via the chassis CAN, the gateway for user interface CAN and the user interface CAN to the instrument cluster (IC) control unit.

The front door control units transmit the status of the front doors (open or closed) via the interior CAN, the gateway for user interface CAN and the user interface CAN to the instrument cluster (IC) control unit.

The sliding door control units send the status of the sliding doors (with CODE T55 (Electrical actuation for right sliding door) or with CODE T56 (Electrical actuation for left sliding door)) (open or closed) via interior CAN, gateway for user interface CAN and user interface CAN to the instrument cluster (IC [KI]) control unit.

The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit sends the status of the sliding doors (without CODE T55 (Electrical actuation for right sliding door) and without CODE T56 (Electrical actuation for left sliding door) or with or without CODE T19 (Left sliding door)) via interior CAN, gateway for user interface CAN and user interface CAN to the instrument cluster (IC [KI]) control unit.

Model 447.6/7, model 448.7

The electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit sends the status of the CL [ZV] and the status of circuit 15 via chassis CAN to the instrument cluster (IC [KI]) control unit.

The front door control units send the status of the front doors (open or closed) via interior CAN to the instrument cluster (IC [KI]) control unit.

The sliding door control units send the status of the sliding doors (with CODE T55 (Electrical actuation for right sliding door) or with CODE T56 (Electrical actuation for left sliding door)) (open or closed) via interior CAN to the instrument cluster (IC [KI]) control unit.

The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit sends the status of the sliding doors (without CODE T55 (Electrical actuation for right sliding door) and without CODE T56 (Electrical actuation for left sliding door) or with or without CODE T19 (Left sliding door)) via interior CAN to the instrument cluster (IC [KI]) control unit.

The instrument cluster (IC) control unit evaluates all of the incoming information, generates the circuit 58d signal and transmits it to the following control units for actuation of the switch and controls and symbol illumination:

Model 447.8, model 448.8

The radio (Audio/COMAND) actuates the integrated controls and transmits the circuit 58d signal via the telematics CAN to the following components, which then actuate the integrated controls:

The electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit transmits the circuit 58d signal via the chassis CAN to the steering column tube module (MRM) control unit.

The steering column tube module (MRM) control unit actuates the following components:

The electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit transmits the circuit 58d signal via the interior CAN to the following control units:

The signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit actuates the following components:

The overhead control panel (OCP [DBE]) control unit directly actuates the switch and controls and symbol illumination of the integrated controls and also the following components:

Model 447.8, 448.8

The automatic air conditioning (AAC [KLA]) control and operating unit (with CODE HH4 (THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control) or with CODE HH9 (Semi-automatically controlled air conditioning, TEMPMATIC)) actuates the switch and controls and symbol illumination of the following operating units via climate control LIN:

The left front door control unit actuates the following components:

The right front door control unit actuates the following components:
