The circuit 15 ON status is sent by the electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit (N73) via the interior CAN (CAN B) to the parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit (N26/16).
Mirror taximeter/mirror odometer, general
The taximeter (A50) is a piece of auxiliary equipment used by the taxi driver to determine the fare. The fare is shown on the automatically dimming inside rearview mirror/mirror taximeter (A67/2).
The mirror taximeter/mirror odometer function is comprised of the following subfunctions:
- Function sequence for activating the mirror taximeter/mirror odometer
- Function sequence for determining the fare

The automatically dimming inside rearview mirror/mirror taximeter can be manually activated by the taximeter or automatically, when the front passenger seat is recognized as occupied. The status of the front passenger seat occupancy recognition (B48/5) is sent directly to the supplemental restraint system (SRS) control unit (N2/18). The supplemental restraint system (SRS) control unit sends the status over the chassis CAN (CAN E), electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit and the interior CAN to the parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit. The fare is shown in the upper left area of the automatically dimming inside rearview mirror/mirror taximeter. At the same time, the parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit switches off the roof sign lamp (E14/4).
Function sequence for determining the fare
The taximeter uses the distance traveled as a basis to calculate the fare. The distance traveled is defined through the wheel speed, which is recorded by the left front rpm sensor (L6/1). The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) control unit (N30/4) reads in the signals from the rpm sensor and sends them via chassis CAN, electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit, interior CAN to the parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit. The parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit actuates the taximeter via the CIA-CAN (CAN CIA).
If the cash register mode is activated, the taximeter sends the status to the parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit.
The use of the wheel speed signal to calculate the fare is subject to the German Verification Act (Eichgesetz). If the taxi is also equipped with a card reader and printer (A50/2) (accessory), the fare due can be settled by card payment and a receipt can be printed out.
The taximeter stores the following data in the trip memory:
- Trip information and driving shifts
- Distances traveled
- Processing of driving jobs
