IMPORTANT Further information can be found in the superordinate service document. The safety information in the superordinate service document must be observed.

IMPORTANT The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be accomplished analogously on the right side in the event of damage.

  1. Install and fit sidewall paneling (1), rear sidewall paneling lower section (4), sliding door, tailgate or rear-end door, seals, and lock strikers.
  2. Check gaps using SPECIAL TOOL feeler gauge and adjust.

    HAND-HELD TESTER Gap dimensions "IA", "IF"

  3. Fix side wall paneling (1) and rear side wall paneling bottom section (4) in place.
  4. Remove sliding door, tailgate or rear-end door, seals, and lock strikers.

  5. Drill rivet holes on the sidewall paneling (1) at the specified punch marks with a diameter of 7.1 mm (area B).
  6. MODEL 447.6/7 except CODE W65 (Liftgate) except CODE W68 (Electrically actuated liftgate)

    Drill rivet holes on the sidewall paneling (1) at the specified punch marks with a diameter of 7.1 mm (area A).

  7. Drill rivet holes on the sidewall paneling (1) and rear sidewall paneling lower section (4) with a diameter of 6.5 mm (area C).
  8. Remove side wall paneling (1) and rear side wall paneling bottom section (4).
  9. Deburr rivet holes on both sides.
  10. Coat insides of riveted joints with zinc dust paint.

  11. Apply sealant to body and lock striker reinforcement (2).
  12. Apply 2-component adhesive to the body (areas D and E).

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces (areas D and E). Refer to the manufacturer's information for the curing and working times of 2-component adhesive.

  13. Install side wall paneling (1) and rear side wall paneling bottom section (4) and fit.
  14. Fix side wall paneling (1) and rear side wall paneling bottom section (4) in place.
  15. Side wall paneling (1) and rear side wall paneling bottom section (4) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas F to K).
  16. Drill side wall paneling (1) before shielding gas welding (arrow).
  17. Side wall paneling (1) SHIELDED GAS PLUG WELD (areas L and M).
  18. Rivet sidewall paneling (1) and rear side wall paneling lower section (4) with blind rivet Ø 6.4x14 (area P).
  19. Position blind rivet nuts M5 (areas N1 and N2 ).
  20. MODEL 447.6/7 except CODE W65 (Liftgate) except CODE W68 (Electrically actuated liftgate)

    Position blind rivet nuts M5 (areas O1 to O3 ).

  21. Rear side wall paneling bottom section (4) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas Q to T).
  22. Rear side wall paneling bottom section (4) SHIELDED GAS PLUG WELD (area V).
  23. Rear side wall paneling bottom section (4) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD INTERRUPTED (area U).

    IMPORTANT Inert gas weld in intervals and allow to cool down in between. Reduces heat distortion.

  24. Side wall paneling (1) SHIELDED GAS PLUG WELD (areas W and X).

  25. Scribe separating point and cut (area Y).
  26. Remove section from side wall paneling (1).
  27. Side wall paneling (1) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas G and H).
  28. Grind shielding gas welds and shielding gas spot welds down flat.
  29. Clean weld joints.
  30. Restore surfaces on side wall paneling (1) and rear side wall paneling bottom section (4) and smooth.
  31. Remove shavings and drill chips.

  32. Model 447, 448.8 with code CN1 (Exterior door sill) Position and align rail (X).
  33. Model 447, 448.8 with code CN1 (Exterior door sill) Transfer hole from rail (X) to body.

    IMPORTANT Then remove rail (X).

  34. Model 447, 448.8 with code CN1 (Exterior door sill) Drill and center punch hole (arrow).

    IMPORTANT Number of holes can vary depending on design.

  35. Model 447, 448.8 with code CN1 (Exterior door sill)

    Deburr holes and remove drill chips.
