Function requirements, general 

Electric sliding door, general 

The electrical sliding door system controls opening and closing of the corresponding electrical sliding door.

It can be operated via the following switches and buttons:

The electric sliding door function comprises the following partial functions:

IMPORTANT When opening an completely closed electric sliding door, first the lock is unlocked via the left electric sliding door central locking actuator (M14/42) or right electric sliding door central locking actuator (M14/43). Precise information on central locking is given in the central locking (CL) document, function.

Additional function requirements for opening procedure 

Opening procedure 

As soon as a valid opening request for the sliding door is recognized, the opening assist motor in the right electric sliding door central locking actuator (M14/43) or the opening assist in the left electric sliding door central locking actuator (M14/42) raises the lock pawl and the rotary tumbler can open. Then the central locking actuator moves back to the rest position under time or event control. The corresponding sliding door closing assist actuator remains the rest position.

Closing procedure 

The electric sliding door moves to the first catch on the lock. As soon as the central locking main lock switch with right electric sliding door closing assist (S51/3) or central locking main lock switch on vehicles with left electric sliding door closing assist (S51/2) signals this position, the corresponding sliding door closing assist actuator is switched on and the drive unit switched off. The sliding door closing assist actuator pulls the rotary tumbler into the main catch until the lock pawl arrests. Then the sliding door closing assist actuator returns to the rest position.

Function sequence for opening and closing electric sliding door 

When the right electric sliding door handle actuation switch (S87) is actuated, it transmits a signal to the right sliding door control unit ((E-LSTR) (N69/6). The right sliding door control unit (E-LSTR) (N69/6) then actuates the right electric sliding door drive (M73/1) directly. The drive unit moves the sliding door with cables.

When the left electric sliding door handle actuation switch (S86) is actuated, it transmits a signal to the left sliding door control unit (E-LSTL) (N69/7). The left sliding door control unit (E-LSTL) (N69/7) then actuates the left electric sliding door drive (M73/2) directly. The drive unit moves the sliding door with cables.

When the right electric external operation sliding door (M14/43s2) is actuated, it transmits a signal to the right sliding door control unit (E-LSTR) (N69/6). The right sliding door control unit (E-LSTR) (N69/6) then actuates the right electric sliding door drive (M73/1) directly.

When the left electric external operation sliding door (M14/42s2) is actuated, it transmits a signal to the left sliding door control unit (E-LSTL) (N69/7). The left sliding door control unit (E-LSTL) (N69/7) then actuates the left electric sliding door drive (M73/2) directly.

When the right sliding door button (S159/1) in the B-pillar is actuated, it transmits a signal to the right sliding door control unit (E-LSTR) (N69/6). The right sliding door control unit (E-LSTR) (N69/6) then actuates the right electric sliding door drive (M73/1) directly.

When the left sliding door button (159/2) in the B-pillar is actuated, it transmits a signal to the left sliding door control unit (E-LSTL) (N69/7). The left sliding door control unit (E-LSTL) (N69/7) then actuates the left electric sliding door drive (M73/2) directly.

If the right electrical sliding door button (N72/1s8) or left electrical sliding door button (N72/1s1) on the upper control panel control unit (UCP) (N72/1) (model 447.7) is actuated, the on the upper control panel control unit (UCP) (N72/1) via the battery sensor LIN (LIN B15) a signal to the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) (N10/1). The a signal to the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) (N10/1) transmits then via the interior CAN (CAN B) a request to the right sliding door control unit (E-LSTR) (N69/6) or left sliding door control unit (E-LSTL) (N69/7).

When the right electric sliding door button (A40/1s4) or left electric sliding door button (A40/1s3) on the left upper control panel control unit (UBFL) (A40/1) (model 447.8 or model 448.8) is actuated, the left lower control panel control unit (UBFL) (A40/1) transmits a request via the telephone keypad LIN (LIN A2), central operating unit control unit (COU) (A40), telematic-CAN (CAN A), radio (Audio/COMAND) (N87/6), user interface CAN (CAN HMI), gateway for user interface CAN (N93/4) and interior CAN (CAN B) to the right sliding door control unit (E-LSTR) (N69/6) or left sliding door control unit (E-LSTL) (N69/7).

When the opening button of the electrical sliding door on the transmitter key (A8/1) is pressed for longer than 0.5 s, the transmitter key (A8/1) transmits a signal to the FM, AM antenna (A2/51). This transmits the signal via direct line over the FM, AM antenna (A2/18) to the electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) (N73). The electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) (N73) then transmits a request via the interior CAN (CAN B) to the right sliding door control unit (E-LSTR) (N69/6) or left sliding door control unit (E-LSTL) (N69/7). Which of the two control units is actuated, can be programmed via the corresponding button in the upper control panel control unit (UCP) (N72/1) (mode 447.7) or left lower control panel control unit (UBFL) (A40/1) (model 447.8 or model 448.8).

Additional function requirements for child safety lock 

Function sequence - child safety lock 

The child safety lock is activated or deactivated over the relay lever in the electrical sliding doors. The child safety lock deactivates the opening function of the corresponding door handle actuation switch and the sliding door button in the B-pillar.

Play protection (overheating protection) 

If contradictory signals are received in rapid sequence (10 door motions in approx. 60 s), the electric sliding door is stopped. After approx. 30 s, it is possible to operate normally.

Function sequence for reversing 

The right sliding door front edge pinch protection (B51/7) and left sliding door front edge pinch protection (B51/8) recognizes obstacles and starts reversing the motion direction. Moreover, there is an indirect obstacle detection by monitoring the corresponding path and speed sensor (B6/12). It reacts when the speed is changed abruptly in the opening or closing direction.

If an obstacle is recognized, the right sliding door front edge pinch protection (B51/7) or left sliding door front edge pinch protection (B51/8) or corresponding path and speed sensor (B6/12) transmits a direct signal to the corresponding sliding door control unit. It starts a reversing operation by directly actuating the electric sliding door drive. When closing or opening manually by permanently actuating the corresponding button and normalized electrical sliding door, the indirect obstacle recognition is activated with higher threshold value.

Lock while driving 

The opening and reversing function is inhibited starting at a vehicle speed of ≥ 5 km/h.

The right sliding door control unit (E-LSTR) (N69/6) and left sliding door control unit (E-LSTL) (N69/7) receive the speed signal via the interior CAN (CAN B).

IMPORTANT Closing the electric sliding doors is possible any time while driving.
